I've just aquired a Whites Maxxima 1500 coil and would like to have some ideal as what to expect from it performance-wise.My hunts will be open fields for relics as in minis and belt plates. Will tid be close or the same, how will depth readings be affected and will smaller deep targets such as coins be ignored? Thanks,DBULL

Yep!Weighs a ton,but there are fields on both sides of my house that I've found minnies in.I mounted it on my eagleII and swung some yesterday afternoon.I got some good tones, but haven't dug any yet. It's just too darn dry here!DBULL

Howdy David

That 15" coil should reach down to China in all-metal, it was a favorite of the relic hunters back east. This coil mounted on a 5900 Di Pro SL was legendary:please:

I think I'll stick with the small coils on my 6000/5900 they go deep enough for me.

I use a Magnum Force 15" on my Blue & Gray pro for relic hunting with great results. I mostly hunt woods. Finds range from deep (1 - 2 feet) artillery shells, to deep bullets, buttons & brass. I'm amazed at how sensitive it is to shallow small relics as well - tent grommets, percussion caps, etc. Target ID is spot on, I really don't pay attention to the depth meter, as I de-tune to pinpoint. Hope this helps. Let us know what those good tones were when the ground softens!

Thanks Gary;I'm in a place where I can use a shovel,so I'll just dig it all for a while until I get the hang of using this coil.I have two xl-pros,one with tone id, and I'll probably try it on one of them also.DBULL

David,

I have an xl pro too, waiting for the tone mod to become available again. There is (I think still) a coil bracket available from Whites, though it looks like you won't need it hunting in fields. Good luck again, let us know how you make out.

Sorry for waiting so long to reply.I decided to check the field behind my house with my modded xl-pro back in March, using the 950 coil.I found 3 54's , 2 eagle buttons and lots of square nails.A few days later I went back with the eagle sl-2 and the maxima coil and dug a .69 cal and the lead part of a US buckle in the same area that I had previously hunted. Both were in the 8-10" range. For slow open field hunting the 15" coil definitely brings out the deeper targets but it really gives you a good workout.Thanks....DBULL
