Does anyone know anything about this coil? I just picked it up recently. I'm thinking it's from the early 1980s.

Very interesting. How do you know it's for White's detectors ? It certainly looks like the loops from their mid '70s to early '80s machines. I've never seen that decal on any loop ! Thanx for posting. Maybe Paul will chime in and let us know if he's seen that decal on a loop before.

The previous owner stated that he used this with a Whites 4000/D. Also the coil housing is a typical Whites 8" coil of the time era mentioned. Plus there is a glossy section at the top of the coil where the Whites decal would've gone.
I connected this to my Whites Eagle Spectrum and did a test. In the VLF discriminate mode the coin readings were way off. A zinc penny read as quarter and a dime read at dollar.
Both the top and bottom of the coil detected metal. Then I pressed the trigger for All Metal pinpoint and only the bottom half responded to metal.

that's strange. No doubt because the generation of coils changed about the early 1990's. When the 6000D came out with the "Di pro", the coil changed to the flat 950 loop. Versus the earlier "boyant" type loops. And even though the connections might have remained the same, yet they were not compatible. They might appear to work (as your tests show), but can't ground balance, and are not calibrated, etc.......

ahh, thanx for the link. You are lucky to get Monte to chime in. He's toned down his posting to very few sites nowadays. Reads and chimes in on only a select few forums, and/or threads these days. But whenever someone can get him to chime in, it's always a good read. He's quite knowledgable on the evolution of detectors from the late 1960s to the present. Not only as a hobbyist, but also d/t he worked in the industry for awhile. Thanx for the link !

Appears to be made for competition hunts to counter the effects of interference(cross talk). Yup
