Havent been detecting in over 26 years. New delta 4000 is light years away from old detector. Last was areas in Germany, old battle sites from battle of the buldge. Now in so illinois. Have 1800's farm property. Old out buildings. Fence rows, ect. Tomorrow is first day. Have gleaned info from this site. Ready with tools and acsessories. Wife is ready too. Been up since 3am cant sleep. Come on sun. Warm December. From relics to coins and trinkets.. wish me luck. Retired Ammo troop. USAF...6:11am sun not up.

Hope you find a big stash of old silver dollars! Hope you and your wife have a great time, be sure to let us know how it goes! I'll be hitting some schoolyards hard today and tomorrow if this weather holds! This is a great place to hang out waiting on the sun..read other posts and get all jacked up and excited!

Detecting is the study of Humans interaction with topography, the untrustworthyness of pockets, and metals desire to return to the earth from whence it came.

I know the feeling, i still lay awake at night.... night dreaming of the fantastic things i'll find the next morning.
Sometimes i sit at the spot i'm going to hunt, drinking coffee and waiting for the sun to come up.
Its still so exciting.... but i have only been detecting for 2 years now. maybe in another 15 or 20 i'll calm down ( i doubt it )

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Didnt get to go today.. the 1st im gettin hay for the animals. Then on to the fun. Turned on the machine for 1min. Found two ends to a old fashioned house fuze. Showed as clad. 2inches down. Just like the machine said it was. I'll report my 1st days finds. Majormatt...

Life has kept me away from detecting since gettingg new 4000. In 20 or so mins i have found really nothing. Handed it to my wife and bee lines for an old persimmon tree. Loud shrill from machine. Asked her what it showed. She said 50 cent piece. 5 inches down. Yeah shure i said, pinpointed, dug out a plug of earth. Checked it, nothing. Put the 4000 in the hole, loud shrill. Had to pull and cut roots. Then i saw it. Standing strait up. Pulled it out, spit on it to get the dirt off. A 1959 franklin half dollar. After rubbing it clean and hitting with tarn x. Looks mint. Except for where i rubbed the dirt off. Ill put a pic up later. Soooooo i guess the wife will be good luck. By the way. She had never touched a metal detector before. Figures huh? Untill next time. Congrats but try not to use Tarn-X on the coins.

It destroys their value.

That comes first hand from an experienced coin dealer.

Congrats on the first find. I am thinking about buying the same machine soon.
At least there is no fear in digging up a mk82 where you are :)

I was in 9 years in the :usaf:. I was in the Civil engineer squadron. My job was Structural Specialist (welder, carpenter, masonry, sheet metal, locksmith) I had to go to a lot of WSA buildings to either fix the doors or PM the doors. Lots of fun working on huge blast doors in North Dakota in the winter :(
