A day that started bad, but ended well.

Son and I hit the road at 4 a m for a two hour drive to Pickwick Dam to do some striper and sauger fishing below the dam. Perfect fishing conditions, overcast with off and on light sprinkles. Stopped and got a bucket of minnows for the sauger, couple of egg, sausage and biscuits, some liquids and off to the dam ramp. Got there and saw that they had several generators going and almost all of the spillway gates were open. Water was way up and looked like a white water rapids down stream for as far as we could see. Nope, neither of as had checked the generation schedule and with all the rain east of us they had opened the spillway nearly full bore. Nice four hour drive for nothing. But, the minnows liked it, they go released. O.K., I have another hobby and headed out with the Omega in tow after getting home to a spot I hadn't hunted since early last year sometime. It had been a great spot for me for a long time, but had gotten pretty frugal. I opted for a small field that I couldn't recall if I had swung the Omega over before. It used to give my F 75 and F 75 LTD fits from the power lines that bordered the field. I was able to run the Omega at 99 sen and disc 1 with no chatter with the coil over the ground. Most of the clad I recovered was probably fairly recent drops. The 1 1940 wheatie was about 4" as was the 1964 Washington quarter. The little 925 silver ring was under a large oak tree at about 3" depth. The gold looking band is junk, but did look good just laying there in the grass. My last target was the Boy Scout slide which came just a few yards away from my vehicle as I was returning to it. Gotta love this dirt fishing hobby. I was also swinging with the 10" coil on. It worked pretty good as the spot is trash, trashy. Going to hit it again with the 5 inch DD. HH jim tn
