This mornings hunt!

Grabbed the Omega this morning and headed out to check out a new freshly mowed field down the road from one I have been hunting on for over a month. This is another pretty good sized one, but not all these fields yield goodies. A while back I had spent two days on a smaller spot just across the road and as I recall I only found a dozen or so clad and Memorial cents. Within the first five minutes I hit a 2 quarter and a dime coin spill, so had some hopes of maybe being able to dig at least some clad. Not to long after the small clad coin spill I hit the 1st of the 5 wheat cents I found on the outing, so settled in for some careful listening. About mid way through the hunt I dug the 45 P war nickel. I was actually getting mixed tones, mid and high, and two different sets of readings. One was a fairly tight, but a bit bouncy nickel reading and the other a high tone with an 80-81 reading. Thought possibly a nickel (or a tab) with a cent or a dime. After removing about 4" of dirt I got a high tone in the clod...which turned out to be a 1 1/2" long piece of like fence wire. Re-scanned everything and got a faint mid tone. Went after it with the Pro pin pointer and found the 45 war nickel off on the side of the hole near the bottom. A little while later I got the 60 D Rosie. Glad to see the wheat cents and the 1 & 1/3rd pieces of silver. The spot is big enough to keep me happily swinging for a while. But, my days are numbered if we don't get some rain shortly. At least Mn seems to be and that trip is getting closer. 11dd coil, 99 sen., disc. 1, 3h tones and a 62-65 g b. HH jim tn

Jim, nice going!

I'm going to get out and face the heat some tomorrow. That last rain we had is about all dried up.

Get out there early. I could have rung my t shirt out at 11 this morning. Look for thick grass. The roots keep the dirt from compacting and thoroughly drying out. Otherwise digging is starting to get tough. Think I'll leave all the local haunts to you tomorrow. Good luck! Hh jim tn

Jim, you are a war nickle magnet:) I know you will easily surpass your last years silver count.

Jim, I hope you and others down there get some rain soon. :sadwalk:

Putting up with too much cold, too much heat, too much water, etc., can really be frustrating. I know things can get a bit too muggy in some hot places for my liking, but having to deal with compacted and hard, dry soil is a real pain.

Note, those are root beer floats 'cause I don't drink. Never have, not that alcoholic stuff.

My birthday was last Monday, the 21st, and I have tried all week to luck onto some silver, but haven't had any good fortune come my way.. Going to go hit a different spot in the morning and see if working that 5" in some dense trash and brush at an old park might be in my favor.

All the best to you as your silver count grows!

Terra, what birthday post? Last I heard Elton was in hiding, so he won't be posting for a while. Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and a belated one to you Monte. Terra, my F's, cz's and Tek detectors have all been great nickel machines and the spots I hunt pretty much dictates that the occasional war nickel will come along. Every one have a great and safe Memorial Day. HH jim tn
