I am just getting started in metal detecting and i have an old teknetics 7700 and just bought the delta 4000,I am getting a bit frustrated with the delta i seem to be getting false signals or i am not digging deep enough,,I had both detectors over the same target same general settings and the delta showed a signal at maximum depth and the 7700 shows no signal at all.and have yet to find anything in the hole.Could the delta go that much deeper than the 7700?I am also having a lot of trouble pinpointing with the delta.When i am over a target and try to pinpoint and hold the button in it will emit a constant tone or none at all.I have read the manual what am i doing wrong?Any tips appreciated

sounds like you need to turn down the sensitivity try running it at 50 to start with could also be deep large metal object if you raise the coil up 6 or so inches from the ground and you still get a signal its most likely deep large junk also make a test garden bury some coins a different depths and learn the tones. what your going through happens to just about everone when they first start it takes some time to learn hang in there hh

My wife had the same problem, too noisey, too much junk everywhere, only found a penny and wanted me to sell her Delta. She was not liking it. She is used to using a single tone machine (Tesoro).
Since she was away visiting, had the Delta along, I couldn't be there, tried to explain how to use the Delta over the phone......she said she would try using it again....
So I had to go down to where is she is for a weekend. While there took her out to the schoolyard for a few hours and hunted with the Delta. She got to listen to the tones and see how I used it it while explaining what was going on. The next time she took the Delta out, she found $7.00 in change and a junky ring. She is now getting the hang of it and is liking the Delta.

By all means as the above poster says, turn down the sensitivity to 50%. There should be a bunch of videos on Youtube that would be of help.
To get used to the Delta notch out everything but nickel,dime, quarter,50 cents. Once you get the feel of using it this way, start un notching zinc, then alumin. and so forth. After about 40 hours you'll start to understand the detector. You should spend some time bench testing the Delta to see how it responds to coins and other targets, jot your findings down on a pc. of paper. (see below)Then make a quick cheat sheet to take out with you next time you go hunting. I usually spend a number of hours just bench testing a new detector, especially those with multi-tones and ID screens.
As a beginner, you need to read the manual and follow the instructions, and understand what you have read by bench testing per manual. By the way my wife hates reading manuals, that's why she has problems.

DIG ALL 82-96 HIGH TONES=SILVER COINS AND RINGS
SOME COINAGE LOCKS ON OR BOUNCES BETWEEN CERTAIN NUMBERS
GOLD---
WEDDING BANDS 60-70 LOCK ON OR BOUNCE, ID AS 5 CENTS  OR ALUM
SMALL MED RINGS 55-57 LOCK ON OR BOUNCE, ID AS FOIL OR 5 CENTS
WHITE GOLD  49-53 LOCK ON OR BOUNCE, ID AS FOIL

Went out to a local fair ground today and had some luck never got to stay long found some dimes penny's and quarters,My big issue seems to be pin pointing..When i zero in on the target where the tone is the loudest does that mean to dig at the dead center of the coil..That seems to be the way it works with my old 7700 teknetics the coil on it is completely closed in does that make any difference?Thanks

YES
When your dead center pinpointing the loudest, stop, pres the pinpoint button again and slightly sweep over target. It will detune and shrink the target further for tighter pinpointing.
Put a coin on the ground and practice sweep and pinpointing.....

Get an dull ice pick or philips screwdriver and press it into the ground at pinpoint center, you should be able to feel the target, then dig a plug around it. Round off a flat screwdriver
and use it to pop up surface coins or shallow coins.

Also check for power lines and electricial interfereances.....that can make it go nuts sometimes. Practice and get used to the delta, its a good machine.

Took the Delta out to the fairground today found 2.00 in change and a 1.5 ounce of what looked like a black rock that was actually silver..We grinded down one corner of the rock and found it to have silver under the shell weirdest looking thing i have ever seen..But i am getting more used to the delta now and liking it..If anyone would like to see this weird looking rock i can take a pic of it..It was 9 inches down...

Here is the silver rock,Or anyone else ever seen anything like this?I have no clue

Nope not magnetic,I thought the same thing but seems to be pure silver under the shell.

Looks like melted aluminum or lead? You can have it acid tested by any coin shop or jeweler.
Or buy your own acid test kit off fleabay

Just got permission to hunt a huge farm house and all property that has been standing since 1874,And the property owner has owned this since 1958 and it's never been hunted with a metal detector (Since he bought it anyway)...Can't wait!!Will post any interesting finds

Run that black rock under you coil again and see where it falls on the VID.
If should fall in the silver range if it Silver aat all.
