Omega gets big, big silver.:teknetics:

Picked up an Omega 8000 version 5 three or so weeks ago and while it, like all Omega's are coin killers, as far as silver goes all I have found with it are several Rosies, Merc's, a couple of Washington quarters and a couple of small silver rings, 1 10k g f ring, 2 I H cents and a handful of wheats, so haven't been posting much of late.

This morning my buddy and I headed out to an old park we have hunted numerous times before and while silvers are lean picking, it still gives up and old coin on occasion. Yesterday I got a 51d Rosie and a 1901 I H cent with the Omega and the day before my buddy hit 2 sterling rings and I got a 10k g f one. This morning we opted to work some previously moved ground and shortly into the hunt I hit a wheat cent followed a few minutes later by a 41 Merc. Working my way back towards one corner I picked up another wheat. Not to long after that I got a bouncy high tone with numbers from the low 80's well into the 90's showing 3-4" deep. Dug a a small plug and scanned the loose dirt and got a high tone. Searched the loose dirt with my pin pointer and recovered a clad dime and a clad quarter. Still wondering a little about the 90's reading I stuck the pin pointer back down in the hole and off on the right side got a good vibration. Moved a bit of dirt and saw a very wide reeded rim. I stopped right there and called my buddy Chris over and then removed a big piece of silver. A 1922 Peace dollar. I had left my camera in the car so my buddy took a couple of shots with his phone fresh out of the ground.

We hunted around for another couple of hours and as we were about to call it quits for the day working my way back towards my Ford Edge I received a nice sounding hit with numbers near the mid 90's showing 5" deep. That hit turned out to be the 1950d Washington quarter.

I can't help but wonder if the Peace dollar was lost at the same time as the clad quarter and dime were? The Peace dollar has some wear on it and perhaps it was someone's "lucky piece." If some of our finds could only talk. HH jim tn

Congrats on the big silver! The 8000 IS a great coin hunter and will sniff out the shiny stuff.

Had to smile at your "lucky piece" reference. My father carried a Morgan for years just for that reason. I think that was fairly common back then.

Jim, the silver dollar is a great find! I found my oldest half dollar with an Omega and 5 inch coil. Enjoy the moment as silver dollars are rare. As big as they are, I can't believe that they aren't found before they sink.

Nice finds Jim. My Grand-Father always carried a Silver Dollar in his pocket for good luck... He once gave me one. " I promptly lost it in the Hay fields " while cutting Hay. LOL

No it wasn't in TN.........so mine is still out there somewhere in some ones front, or back yard as they built new housing on Grandpa's old farm site..

Awesome find fine Sir !!

Wow that piece is huge. I would have gone nuts.

I see that your trash has some pull tabs. Just wondering, were you digging everything past iron the whole time ?

dfmike, no, I'm not a digger of it all. I dig numbers a couple each way of nickel readings and then those in the coin range save for known bottle caps. Those dang nab crushed ones though with some depth are fooling me and this Omega. And I am mostly using the 10" concentric. Yeah, dollar coins are a chunk. HH jim tn

Congrats on the Peace Dollar Jim. The Omega is a super coin finder for sure. I once dug a Franklin half at 8" that sounded like it was on the surface with the original Omega.

Thanks Tom, and everyone. I only had the stock 10" for it wanting to see how this one performed before getting additional coils. Hadn't been overly pleased over all with the depth of the 10" and my hunting buddy had a Sharpshooter coil I tried this morning and started digging some deeper dimes and cents. My 10" has gone bonkers on two occasions, wouldn't g b and was chattery for no apparent reason. I'm thinking the 10" may need a Texas trip. Have a good weekend everyone. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim. I'm still in awe over that big silver. The sheer size of it is massive and it's a real beauty as well.

Mine isn't a depth demon, but it sure loves coins. I haven't added any coils to it yet and have been hunting with the stock 10" concentric, save for a few outings with my buddies Sharpshooter, and the concentric is pretty darn solid hunting in trash. I hit 2 silver Rosies with it yesterday that were in holes with a small rusty nail and a inch long rusty screw. It really is a fun detector. Again, thanks guys. HH jim tn
