New T2 ltd on the way-never detected before

Hello to everyone here. I've lurked for awhile here and finally bought a detector! I have a Teknetics T2LTD, Garrett waterproof pin pointer and a set of Killer B wasp headphones on the way. I live in Upstate New York and hope to learn how to properly use the detector. I'm reading the manual now and looking at YouTube videos. Is there a better source for learning how to use the T2 ? Any advice for a new user is welcome! Thanks for this great forum too!

I think you are about to have a lot of fun! Great choice. Think about NEL sharpshooter.

Practice with different coins and some trash like pull tabs on the ground. Learn sounds and visual display. Practice how to pinpoint. Then try burying a few coins in your yard and see how they respond.

learn good digging methods don't go to parks and school yards with a shovel use a good digging knife. and only go to schoolyards on weekends and holidays when kids are not around that should keep ya out of trouble. like everyone is saying you have to dig alot to learn, also keep your sensitivity low for a while that will help avoud false signals, learn how to do a factory reset good chance you will get your settings messed up and a reset will fix that keep us posted lot of good people here that are glad to help if you need it happy hunting

I have the same machine and I love it. Generally coins will lock on the numbers with them only moving by a few if target is good. For instance in my easy soil pennies and clad dimes will read 80-83. 84 and 85 are silver dimes. Upper 80's quarters. Pay attention to the depth because there will be more variability to the #'s. I have dug very deep silver that rang up in the 60's. The more you dig the more you learn. Great machine.

Play a game with yourself: Try to guess the target you hit and then dig it. Pay attention to VDI and "shape" of sound, i.e., abrupt, smooth, rough, crackle, pitch, etc.
Write down the particular setup you are running on the T2 each time you play the game.

Practice, practice, practice.

Build a test garden: Penny @ 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12 inches. Do the same for nickel, dime and quarter.
Maybe add a coin and rusted nail in same hole. Best to check area first for trash before planting coins.

Don't get discouraged. Do some research on old places by asking friends, family & neighbors. Get permission.

Enjoy!

I've been doing some practicing in the yard and found a couple clad quarters so far. I've got a raised flower bed in the back yard I'm going to use for a test bed. The thrill of seeing that first quarter at the bottom of the sod was great though! I'll be practicing and getting to know this machine better.
