Hi all, new to site
Went out for first hunt with the new patriot
today and had a blast. Never used a DD coil
before so pinpointing was a little challenging
but made it work. 2 1/2 hour hour hunt came
home with $4.65 in clad. This detector is quite
different form my old idx pro w/Mr Bills mod.
which I'll never get rid of. Looking forward to
the new challenge.

It is an amazing tool.
Look up the F70 settings combinations and info on the F Series forum, I, among others, have explored this thing to deep levels.

As far as pinpointing on the deeper ones I use the pinpoint button but on most everything else I use the wiggle and pull back method.
Keep the target in the center area of the coil using short quick side to side swipes then pull the coil back till the signal drops out.
When it does the target should be under the front rim of the coil or just in front or just in back.
That should narrow it down to about a 2" area.

I think you will enjoy this machine. I love the tone options and depth when you need it is no problem. I use the pinpoint some, but usually just wiggle over the target. You can heel toe with the coil on shallow targets also. I generally raise and wiggle the coil over the target to get a quick estimation of depth. If deep I pinpoint and if shallow I just dig under the button. This is a old tesoro trick and saves time on shallow ones anyway.. HH and good luck!

Like Revier I'm starting to use the wiggle and pull back method more and more especially with bigger coils which I find less precise in their pin pointing area. I find pin pointing with the 11 DD to be quite easy. There is a plastic indentation on top of the coil just in front of where the coil ears are located. For me on my F5 and F19 the targets are almost always just underneath that point. You should see it clearly on the attached picture found on the net. I bought some brightly colored round plastic stickers (sold in packs from Avery # 06720) from walmart and they fit perfectly in there and it makes it super easy to see.

Welcome to the forums.

Active detectors: Fisher F5 , Fisher F19 LTD, Nokta Fors CoRe, Makro pointer and way too many coils.
Previous detectors: Bounty Hunter Discovery, Fisher F44, Omega 8000 V6, Minelab X-Terra 705

Gentlemen thanks for the info on the
wiggle method I'll try that out in the
back yard and get the fill for it.
Never had any problems with the
idx (cross method center in coil)
After I had the mod done I ran in
all metal all the time and it turned
it into a park monster. That things
A blast in the parks.Revise sent
me to the fisher f70 forum to read
up on the setting ya`ll figured out on
that detector, great read. I know I
have a lot of work in front of me
and that's what makes this a fun
hobby. Pick up the patriot for going up to
the the mother lode area where the
mineral's are a lot more harss on a concentric
coil.
Once again thanks ya`ll

Ok here's my 1st weeks acessment
Of the patriot. After 1st hunt did some
homework and read the posts on the
fisher forum that Revier said I should read
In order to get a little better understanding
on how this thing works. Started using the
wiggle and pull for pin pointing and it works
outstanding. The patriot can get a little chatty
at times but that's where the sense & threshold
come into play turn it down if you don't like it,
it will still find the targets on low settings.

I now have 3 hunts and this detector is a beast !
No silver or gold rings yet but positive that if
the coil had passed over one I would have found
it.
14.50 in quarters
5.70 in dimes
1.25 in nickles
1 Sacagawea
1 Kennedy half
For a total of 22.45 in clad in 3 hunts

Great job...and you are just beginning.
The more you use it the more intuitive it gets.

Low thresh and high gain works.
High thresh and low gain works.
All other combinations work too and as you go higher it might get chatty but you know what...It still works.
Not necessary to max it out but I sometimes do anyway and it always stops any crazy behavior when it swings over solid targets.
Raising the disc seems to calm it down too, the higher you go the quieter it gets but it doesn't lose depth on high disc.

DP is interesting but takes practice, I can't tell you how much gold and silver jewelry I have found in 4H, the modulation is nice in 1F and 2F but it can be mentally fatigueing, monotone is the quietest of all the tones, not mentally fatigueing at all and my favorite to use in disc.
All metal...that's a whole other story and gets deep plus has great unmasking ability around iron.

That wiggle and pull back method has another use, right before the target drops out if your disc is low enough the numbers will drop over bottle caps.
Sometimes to the 20's to 40's, most times down to iron but there will be a drop and coins and rings don't do this....a very handy thing to know in sites infested with these things.

You are doing great but the Westchester to come.

Thanks you,
This dog will hunt!
I was able to open that door your
talking about ,80 on sense,+2 on
threshold running de in 1F worked
out well, pretty quiet. Nothing really
deep 5" was the max target, could
have backed off a little bit but wanted
to try and push it.Had a jumpy sig
that was bouncing 60-70 was sure
of a dime being masked by something
and it was 11 pennies later there it
was. Really liking this thing. Thanks
for the input, will keep posting on how
its working out.

Hi all,
Haven't had any time off in the last
3 weeks to go play! Came home
today and the little woman told me
see ordered my a new set of headphones
and a new nel sharpshooter coil for my patriot

Not sure what type the headphones are
and to be honest I don't really care
sense my old ones broke a few years
ago. Just thought I'd share what a great
lady I married. CaDigginDawg

A decent pair of headphones can help a lot, the audio can be very descriptive on this machine and as much as I usually use both the screen info and the audio together there have been several great targets I have recovered because of what I heard alone....in my great Killer B's headphones.
This ability comes in handy in trash and iron infested sites.

As far as that Sharpshooter coil here is a review I did just a few weeks after I got one and now I have been using it for a few months and it rarely leaves the bottom of my rod.
http://www.findmall.com/read.php?37,2364649

I am nothing but impressed at what it can do...shocked a few times, even.
Surprisingly deep, light as a feather, it "feels" like it is covering much more area than the round 5" Fisher coil, sensitivity and target separation is extremely great on this one...as good if not better than my Fisher sniper which has found me a ton with the many hundreds of hours I have on that one.
Probably the best thing of all is it seems to have more shielding than my Fisher coils so it is quieter in most of my sites.
A lot quieter in many.
The quieter it is the more I can push it to higher settings and still hunt relatively quietly and I can use more combinations of different settings if I want to.
I never thought I would ever have a need or even want to get into aftermarket coils but this one changed my mind.

Have fun!

Thanks guys,
Revier I read your review on the sharpshooter a couple
of weeks ago along with some others I was able to find.
They all played apart on my selection of this coil.
Y'all have some great information on this site and as
a new student to this detector gaining knowledge from
you folk's is priceless.

One of the main reasons I choose the patriot was the
coil selections available from many defendant companies.
The price wasn't bad either! I'll continue to read all I can.
Once again, thank you. CaDigginDawg
