After reading praises about this little machine designed by George Payne I waited till a sale came up at Big 5 & purchased one. After re-setting the ground balance for our hot rocks/soil I really started to like the machine. Very fast & tone ID that is very descriptive-. In re-setting the ground balance I noticed how small the actual circuit board/components were. The factory housing is hard to keep dry in the rain so I decided to make my own from sheet acrylic. It came out very nice & it is at least hose down proof. I'll try a full dunk when the weather allows river hunting.I posted minor details in the modifications forum.

Sunday I got out to a small homestead spot that is very iron infested. I managed a nice old bracelet-roman heads punched on copper in links. Considering the trash in this spot that was a nice find.

Today I just got back from a small ballfield I have hit many times before-with a very low coin count-but I managed a nice 14k Gold band!!. Proof enough for me that you don't need a ton of settings/depth sometimes. Seperation & target ID amongst trash is a very overlooked factor where less is more....

And I have to admit-I'm a Bounty Hunter convert. My other detectors have not been out much since I got my 3300 & now the rainy day Tracker 4.

I love the modifications you've made to the T4. I recently purchased my first detector and it was a T4 and so far i'm enjoying it. I live in RI so right now it's on/off hunt season until the spring. I also like how you wrapped the grip part of the handle...could you tell me what you used and if it's comfortable? The material that is currently on the unit feels like it would grind away at the skin on my hand after a few weeks of using it repeatedly so i'm just looking for comfort during those long hunts

I use foam bandage tape-it's in most stores where they keep the bandaids. I also use it to seal the battery compartment on this unit. It lasts pretty well & it is cheap enough to use freely.

For the grips I cut a wedge of foam from the origional grip & taped it into position. The foam is flimsy/spongy & attracts mud/moisture. Since I rely on a firm grip when I "ping" targets it is something I do to all my detectors. Washes off easy & lasts a suprisingly long time.I treat the edges with a drop of crazy glue at the ends of the wraps to help keep it together long term.

I figure I don't want to go too far OT or into the modifications forum. And frankly for the most part it should be sent back to 1st Texas for a proper tune.

I was way past that & have a local hot rock I used to set other detectors.....
