Hi! I,ve been a long time lurker on this forum but seldom post. I was bitten by the addiction two and a half years ago when i purchased a Tracker IV and a pioneer 505 used on e bay. Since then I have found almost 6000 coins, 50+ rings (mostly junk) and several coffee cans full of hot wheels cars, spoons, pocket knives, etc. Of all those coins only seven were silver, 6 rosies and 1 merc. Always on my wish list was a silver George Washington quarter, but they seemed to elude me. Last weekend I was working a couple of tot lots at local schools when I noticed that they had recently torn down an older building and had used a scraper to cut the lawn area down about 8 to 10 inches and use the dirt to fill in the hole where the building had been! Not one to ignore a golden opportunity I descended on the site and began a careful grid of the entire scraped area. The tracker IV preformed flawlessly sounding off on coin after coin, all clad. After 78 coins had been dug, some right on the surface, most no more than 1 to 2 inches deep I was "on my way back to the p.u." on the last pass in the most unlikely part of the cut and got a good coin signal with a slight "scratch" at the end, which usually means a trash signal. But it was good enough to dig anyway. 1 inch deep I turned up a 1942 silver quarter, stuck to 1952 wheat! The happy dance was awesome! after my heart beat slowed some I took two swings and got another solid signal, 2 inches down was a sterling silver antique ring with tree blue stones! Two more swings turned up a 1944 wheat! it just doesn't get any better. Don't get discouraged go low and go slow, the good stuff is out there! I just wish I could learn how to post pictures. I had trouble posting pictures until some nice folks on the Tesoro site helped me post my 1945 S War Nickel I found using my Compadre. It is pretty easy depending on the age of your computer. I took a close up shot with the camera and used windows live picture viewer to crop my picture until it fit the allowed number of kilobites for this forum. Then saved the picture in my system. Then clicked on the upload file here in the forum and opened the jpeg in my computer files until it saved in my message I was creating here on the forum. I have a newer system so I used live picture viewer, but some one suggested using windows paint version 7 on an older computer. Hope all of this makes sense. Ed, great write up! You should post more often! You sure got the bug bad, and have plenty of experience on things you notice when hunting that others would find of interest. That slight "scratch" is an important hint for finding multidenom stacks or tight spills overlooked by others. WTG!
