Coil for BH 3300

Are there any wide scan coils available for the 3300 or any of the other BH's that would work?

There's an 11 inch elliptical DD. We have several for different models, so make sure that you get the one that's for the regular Bounty Hunters and early F2/4's, with the push-on plug. .And not the one for the BH Platinum & Delta which is electrically different.

Isn't that a different frequency? My instructions say its 6.6khz and I looked at the F2 and it was I think 7.8khz?

F2/4's run at 5.9 kHz.

We use the same DD searchcoils on the 7.8 kHz Omega as we do on the 19.2 kHz GB/G2. CZ coils run at 5 and 15 kHz simultaneously.

Most of what's bandied about on forums these days relating to searchcoil vs. frequency had its origin in high-Q parallel resonant designs that were popular 30-40 years ago, but has little relevance to current mainstream metal detector engineering.

Could you explain a bit more about the coil, ! would be interested also (I have the same 3300 discovery).... Not really great with electrical issues so name and brand would be great for me ... Thanks so much

This is sort of off topic but do aftermarket coils need to be calibrated to the individual unit?

If it comes from the BH factory, no calibration to the individual unit is necessary. If it comes from a manufacturer of aftermarket specialty coils, we have no control over what they manufacture and therefore can't make any specific representation regarding them.

The BH factory in El Paso manufactures an 11 inch elliptical DD searchcoil. Compared with the standard 8 inch concentric, the 11 inch DD covers more ground, goes a little deeper under most conditions, and provides better target separation. The conventional 8 inch concentric discriminates and pinpoints shallow targets better and gives better discrimination of flat iron objects such as steel bottlecaps. Most people who have used both prefer the 11 inch DD for most conditions, but both searchcoils have their uses.

The 4 inch concentric is very inexpensive by industry standards, and provides excellent target separation in trashy areas. If you search using discrimination, this will help unmask good targets that are located adjacent to trash targets.
