Help from the pros

Hi guys. I need some help. I bought a BH pioneer 101. I have learned how to find coins and silver, but how can I find anything made of gold without having to go to "All Metal" . If I do go to that setting. I end up digging tons of trash. Right now I have the settings set with the discrimination all the way up and sensitivity all the way down. The switch at the lower right hand corner is switched over to disc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Flip the switch to Tone mode, take a new zinc penny and set the disc dial so that the hi low tone breaks up on the penny. That will give you a solid low tone on a nickel, large foil and modern tabs (which is where the gold hides). Then go out and dig low tones until you find a keeper.

Good luck.

So will that cut down on having to dig a bunch of trash? When I first started, which was not very long ago. I told myself that I would just dig every signal. Uh. That lasted about a day. I just can't do that. I couldn't even take three steps before the detector would go off. Thanks for your reply!

HA!

It detects metal. When running in Tone mode iron and small foil is auto rejected. Then the tones will tell you what kind of metal is under your coil. The High tones will be coins. The low tone (for gold) will be gold range trash. The Broken High/Low tones will be mostly trash or new pennies. So yes, it will cut down the amount of trash you are digging and (per your request) it will help you find a gold item if you get your coil over it. Try it for a few days.

Good luck,
Mike

I will definitely try that. Thanks a bunch. I'm working on getting a AT-pro, so I will have to learn it too. I really want a Detector that will do it all. A "One stop shop" if you will. I guess with any detector there is a learning curve.

Hang in there, Tommy, each outing is a learning experience. Dig and learn what those tones and variances in the tones are telling you. While no single detector will do it all well, the A T Pro is a fine all around choice. Good luck! HH jim tn

One rule of thumb is "Your not ready for a new machine till you've mastered the one you got."
At least a Thousand coins and enough to have paid for the machine you now have.
