It's pretty hard to blame Garrett for bad engineering when it was really the previous owner who misused the detector. Seems to me that it would have been prudent to check with Garrett to see what they would charge to make repairs before putting the detector up for sale. Hope you are being up front and honest with the new buyer.

Are you sure you didn't Ham fist the pins yourself; Yes the pins are fragile but you have to exersize a bit of care, as with any plug and socket when connecting them together. My INf is a 2004 model and has its original connectors after many hours of work and buckets of coil changes.

Give garrett a call, the Reps might not be as costly as you imagine.

Gunnar,

Should you decide to contact Garrett's you will find them a kind and understanding bunch of folks!!

They have been a great help to me over the years, often at no charge!!

Be adviced, the Infinium, new right out of the box, requires some getting used to and is not for a casual hunter who isn't willing to take the time to learn how the machine works.

It is an amazing detector designed for hunting gold in the gold fields and happily it also can be used in the water, but you must spend time to learn what the machine is telling you.

Mine chatters a lot, but it also finds me gold once in a while!

It is not a "turn on and hunt" machine, but a very sofisticated machine that you must spend time learning to understand to get the most out of it.

Information on this forum will help you learn most of what you need to know, if you devote the time to it.

The rest comes with experience using the Infinium!

GL&HH Friend,

CJ

PS You need to understand too Friend, that when you are having a problem with a delicate machine such as the Garrett's Infinium detector, it doesn't mean that they are all junk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine has found more gold rings in the water than many hunters find in a lifetime!!!

It has paid for itself several times over and I would never part with it!!

That really sux, man!:thumbdown:Sorry to see that your machine is messed up.:sad:I love my Infinium!:garrett::detecting:It's awesome for nugget shootin' in highly mineralized ground. Plus I can use it at the beach/wet sand/surf/even divin' if I want! Oh yeah! Did I mention snipin' for gold nuggets in the creeks and streams, too!
You mention that the coil connector is screwed up. I remember one time wifey and me got back from the Philippines and when we got home I took my Sea Hunter MKll (same type of connectors as Infinium) out of the luggage and noticed that the headphone and coil connectors were both twisted up real bad. I mean twisted up really bad. I had them both connected to the control box and I assume that the danged U.S. Customs went to remove the headphones and search coil in order to inspect it and whoever was doing that just kept twisting and twisting while the connector was still plugged in. Anyways, the detector was innoperable in this condition, so I sent it to Garrett's for repair. I can't remember the exact charge. It was a few years ago. It wasn't a pricey fix. I think like $40 bucks or so. I can't imagine it being much more now. This was for the connections on the headphones and search coil plus the connections on the control box.
Anyways, man you might as well hang on to the machine and get it fixed.
F.Y.I. Garrett's will give you 40% off the price of a new machine of your choice when you turn in a used or defective machine. Same goes for search coils and such.
My Infinium is an '04 model and I've never had any problems with it. Never sent it in to Garrett or anything and it works awesome.
Best of luck to ya' whatever course of action ya' take.
Happy Hunting!

The only thing that I hate more than digging pulltabs is missing a gold ring!

I would not sell it.LOL I am guessing you live in USA.I bought mine used-like 3 years old used well over warrenty date.I was not the first owner. They repaired it for free-upgrade to newer coil plug/headphone(black)/new programming-sent me new headphones and a new stock coil-then shipped it back for FREE.

I would call garrett-see what they can do.If it has never been touched all it might cost you is the shpping there.

Garrett is by far the best company I have delt with for repair work.Fast and amazing customer service-hands down.

Geezz mate you gave up too early. Selling for 220 is not good. 700 maybe but not 220, even if it was damaged slightly.

Knowing Garrett, its probably an easy fix and they may not have even charged for the fix. My infinium has been great.

First ignorant owner/user sold it to the second, perhaps 3Th owner see the value and have this Infinium LS :garrett: serviced. :cheers:N/T

Gunner new what he was doing when he sold the Infinium for $225.00, both Gunner and buyer made an agreement.

The buyer sent in the defective Infinium to Garrett, the buyer paid for the repair and spent a little extra for other things so the Pi could be used in the water.

Then, the buyer sent Gunner an extra amount equal to what the Infinium would have sold had it not been defective. Plus, the buyer added extra so Gunner actually came out ahead. Both Gunner and buyer well honest with each other and both were happy with the final outcome of the transaction.

Wish we had more people like Gunner, the world would be a better place.
