Could someone tell this old Aussie what the difference between the Yankees & the Confederates was during that great war?
Was it a war between English and Irish or Catholic and Christian or was it a political difference of opinion between States? What triggered that war?
Cheers

Hi Fishers Ghost,
Most people would want you to believe that the civil war was only about slavery including the writers at wikipedia.
Slavery was only a small issue but not the main issue. The main issue was state rights. The federal gubment was trying to influence their politics
on the states--much like they are doing today. So there in lies the main reason for secession of the southern states. The feds were pushing there
agenda on the states. Each state has their rights and can choose how they proceed with things. These rights are guaranteed to the states by the
constitution and by the way each state has their own constitution. Should a state not wish to participate in the federal agenda they have the right to
persue their own, An example of this today would be Obamacare. Some states do not agree with it and have passed their own issues.
Just thought I would set the record straight.

where did you go to school?didn't they have history books there?blowfly
Yes we did have History books and we studied world history, unlike Americans who learnt only about America. The American conflicts did not rate very highly and were just touched on lightly.
