I did an air test with my Infinium using a 1 gram nugget and the 8 mono - the coil didn't see the nugget at two inches in air test - it saw it at 1 in. but faint and would not give the high/ low tone till I touched it on the coil. I was disappointed soooo - decided to actually bury the 1 gram nugget at 3 in. the 8 mono gave a loud Hi/low - then buried it at 4 in. and again good hi/low but more faint - then at 5 in. a light hi/low but digable and at 6 in. it disappeared with the 8 mono. I might have found it at 6 in. if I had scrubbed the ground with the coil. I'M THINKING AIR TEST ARE NOTHING MORE THAN AIR TEST AND CAN'T TRUELY BE COMPARED TO BURIED TARGETS! I was happy with the results and glad I took the time to test. I'll test the 10x14 DD with the 1 gram nugget next. Also, this was freshly burier (no halo) so this type test may not be a true result for a 1 gram nugget at 6 inches. I was still happy with the results

Sounds like your Infinium is working just fine.

Hi Ken -

I never got to test the 10x14 DD because I sent the whole machine back to Garrett to cure a falsing problem with the coils. It has been 10 - 11 days now and have heard nothing. As soon as it returns I want to do a nugget test with the 8 mono verses the 10x14 DD and now I have an AT Gold so I will test it along with the Infinium test - I am anxious to see the results. I do know the 8 inch mono has surprised me for depth. I have a straight shaft for the Infinium and with the belt mounted control box and the 8 mono it makes one hell of great hunting machine for all day use. I only had the straight shaft for about a week before I had to send the unit back but was impressed with the all day comfort when hunting. I want to make a video but have no experience so we'll see. It may be bad but I will try to post it. I have a Canon 7D to use for the video so the quality will be good I hope.
Altho I was disappointed with the Infinium I learned something about it when I received the AT Gold. Took the Gold to a highly mineralized stream where I had hunted with the Infinium. The Infinium, after ground balancing, ran pretty darned smooth and ignored the multitude of hot rocks and allowed me to find what I was looking for - I was looking for cracks in the bedrock that were holding lead. I was looking for lead because gold in this brook is known to be fine - 1Grain minus mostly. Well, I was surprised to see the nice little pickers I dug from the crack. see the attached photo. When I went back with the AT Gold I was not able to get the machine to ignore all the hot rocks and hunting the same ground I had gone over with the Infinium was impossible because of hot rock signals. I would balance out one form of hot rock only to have others sound off. I am going to go back there and play with the ground balance window function on the Gold to see if I can repeat the finds I made with the Infinium......as soon as it stops raining.............

Hey Ray ~ I did a Little Research b4 going to that so-Oreg area we stayed at for a week. Rich in major Gold history and reason that area developed (Jacksonville/Grants pass) . The area of the quartz vein (China gulch) & Small creek (off applegate river) the Lobo ST-vlf was not much help to Finny for Discerning good Targets. In the Small creek (believe poss. 2 deep Nuggets to return to) Lobo was responding similar to Gold tones on Cinnabar (merc. ore pebbles) ,i could show a couple pics - the Infinium did not pick these up as targets at all. Alot of it there - only at the creek location , but it's known to be in the immediate area. in other words ~ at the quartzy area the lobo squaks at hot rocks but misses the fine gold in the quartz that Finny hears. (i've had that happen twice now. Finny performs awesome in the tough conditions for VLF. Good luck , Talk soon - Ken

Well, it finally stopped raining up here in Northern Vermont! Looks like a good weekend coming and I plan to spend it swinging and digging and panning. Hopefully more little pickers are awaiting to adorn my poke!!! Will report back ASAP on my results with the ATG - nothing from Garrett on my Infinium yet! Only been two weeks so hope next week I will see it

HI Ken,
Good to hear that your Infinium is performing well.
I have found that my Lobo St does a fair job of identiying postive hot rocks in that most hot rocks will ground balance out quickly with a 2 or 3 pumps of the coil and even faster in the Alkali mineral position, whereas gold will not balance out unless it is a very weak signal or the nugget is very small and imbeded in high iron minerals.
I have not tried to balance out cinnabar but I would would have thought that it would not be a problem.
I have used my LST in some pretty nasty ground and have not had to operate out of the Normal mineral position for other than ground checking purposes.

Hey Ken - Vermont had one of the first "gold rush" fevers on the east coast. Some of the most pure gold (93% fine) in the USA. Unfortunately (or fortunately) there was never a paying lode for commercial exploitation. We have both hard rock and placer mines from days of old. The only frustrating part of the whole affair is our great leaders and law makers have made laws that reduces us to panning only with a sluice box being to aggressive and requiring a permit that is very complicated and difficult process.
Went back to my secret brook with my AT Pro this weekend and was not able to quiet the hot rocks so went to digging and panning (no pickers but lots of flour). I am anxious to get my Infinium back. Been over two weeks so will contact Garrett today to see where they're at with the repairs. Well, once I found those nice little pickers my fever increased and will continue till I can repeat that great find - the gold I found today is not what makes me excited, but rather, it's the gold I might find tomorrow that excites me. Good luck hunting!

Hi F~Ghost & thanks. I Didn't think (as usual) of GB'ing out the Cinnabar. I think I was on more Gold than realized ,in that small Creek. It's a Place i'll be going Back to when i can get there. I dont believe it's been MD'ed b4 & if it has - it was a long time ago. I always seem to run out of time when i'm Honing in to a spot :( When i have Both machines super Down-pat i think i'll be removing Gold much quicker. I find the Good Targets in super tough Digs it seems like where a Roto-Hammer would be a breeze  I Need an 8" mono Yesterday :(

Ray ~ the Red Tape is getting Ridiculous Field personnel dont even Understand what Recreational prospecting means. I keep an xtra copy of D.C's guielines & They act like they have never been taught the truth from Superiors (Any business would be Broke & Bankrupt doing Business that way. Sammy is kind of a Sick Joke in regards to My tax $. I just ended up with Smalls like flake & powder as well , but i Know theres big Placer there. 5 Mill.$ of Nuggets & Placer came out of the Dig for the Resevoir we Camped at when they built it in 1980 ish. An old Guy that had a Claim that just kepthim Fed , had to be given 20% because it was on part of his Gold Claim so he eEnded up with 1 Million $ in 1980. Not bad for the old Recluse
