Garrett Infinium Forum Classroom

I am thinking of getting an Infinium. It will be a beach/ nugget hunting machine. I am wondering if anyone has used one with the 5x10 or 7x3 coils? If so are they more sensitive to small gold? I am wondering how well these perform for nugget hunting?

The two small DDs detect the same minimum size nuggs as the 10 x 14 DD which means that the sensitivity is the same but the small coils donot go as deep as the big coil.
The tones on small nuggs is sharper with the small coils and are easier to pinpoint. these coils are quiter in high minerals than the mono's and large DD. It is depth that is lacking.
I like the 8 inch mono and only use the DDs if the mineralisation is giving the mono's a hard time.
If you are detecting an area where there is the posibility of large deep nuggs then the 10 x 14 mono or DD would be the way to go.
The 5 x 10 DD is a good beach coil. It won't get the depth of the large coils but it is plenty good enough for coins down to 10 inches or so.

Remember that the 5x10 and the 3x7 coils are not considered waterproof by Garrett, so I wouldn't use them in the .
water at the beach. They aren't epoxy filled and won't withstand any pressure depth.

panama... I know you hunt the beaches often. I have beach hunted with my Infinum for
years, but when I was able, and the the 8-inch circular open-spoke monoloop finally
became available, I took the Amtrack on weekend days to San Clemente Municiple Beach
and I found the 8-inch monoloop a good choice for finding coins in the shallow surf south
of the pier... But again this was about four years ago... jim

As per the performance of the Infinium on small gold...the Infinium with the small coils (including the small mono), is limited to around a .3 gram piece of gold. The bigger coils start hitting a piece at around half gram - to .6 grams.

Some people in rare occasions have found smaller gold...

I had a 8 inch Mono and a 10x 14 DD with the unit I bought. Much easier to pinpoint with the 8inch Mono. Both units
got cracked (probably from bouncing in the back of the 72 Bronco). I replaced them with a 10X14 MONO and it is
my favorite for the beach. Scans a much larger sweep thatn the 8 inch. To pinpoint I like turning the coil vertical if the
signal is strong enough. Also it runs super smooth.

It is said that the coils will all detect the same size nugget, about .3 g. I have found the 8" mono to be alittle more sensitive than the 10x14. Not much but there is a difference.

There is a differance comparing my 3x7 and stock coil.The smaller DD coil hits smaller gold no doubt about it.I have tested the 2.I have not weighed the nuggets but I would say the small coil hits about .3 and the big about .5 on my machine.
