I have no trouble finding silver with this E-trac just about everytime I'm out. it's almost like I expect to find it and I do. problem is I am missing out on many other coins. I run Goes4ever's settings with mostly the stock coin program, sometimes the Andy Sabisch program.
anyway I usually dig every repeatable signal fromthe 11-13 up... I swept an area today in an old park, my hunting buddy was following and hit an IH penny where I just went through.( using the stock ACE250) the problem is I got the bouncy signal on the edge of a null and the tone and VDI changed with evry direction.05-23, 08-30, 15-40 then when I hit quick mask it jumped up to a 34-38 to 35-40 so as I have been told ,probably iron...move along. my loss. I have dug edge of the null signals before and ALWAYS get rusty nails. any help?

If you're getting those sounds and numbers as you circle the target, there is no need to hit Quickmask. One and two way hits will produce iron much more than 4 way hits. If its got the depth and you're getting a "consistent" sound then you dig. Consistent signal always rules, and you live with some rusty nails.

Not trying to be a 'know it all', just what's been my experience. When you're in the right area for old coins, you have to 'lean' towards the sound even harder, unless you've dug 4-6 of those and they're proven to be nails. Each place is different.

Those numbers 34-40 aren't iron if those numbers are the CO numbers. If they are the FE numbers and that cursor is in the bottom right hand corner in quickmask opened right up then it's most likely iron and FE numbers only goe down to 35.

I've had an etrac for about 6 months and have been missing some targets in hjgh trash with it.
My hunting pard uses an AT pro and pulls stuff where I've been,he pulled a 7" merc out of a mess of nails that I apparently missed, and a couple of old pennies from the same hard hunted area.- I know you can't find them all but he has done this on 3 or 4 ocassions.

I have pulled some good silver with the etrac. But in high trash he gets them where I've missed them (but have been having better success lately).
He had an etrac but sold it recently, he prefers the AT pro and does well with it.

I had a whites XLT for 10 years or so and had good finds with it but when I got the se pro my silver finds went way up, I hunted places I had gone over with the xlt.
So then I got the etrac, my silver count is running about the same as when I was using the se pro. I have pulled very few silver from places I have already been with the se pro. The se pro and etrac do go deep.

My hunting pard has used all different kinds of detectors and has hunted for 25 years or so. His take on detecting is use what ever it takes to get the goods. He likes the at pro right now because of its ease of use and the price of the machine. He says it has a certain coin sound on copper or silver. We've done comparisons when out hunting and the etrac does hit the target.

The etrac takes some getting used to but is a good machine but other brands are good too. Finding a good place to hunt is a major thing, some guys travel many many miles just to find a place to hunt and pull silver. I focus on silver mostly but do get a good share of indian heads.

Anyway don't know how much time you have in the etrac but it kinda seems to me a person has to figure out how to hunt deep with it and how to hunt in trash(high trash). I wonder if there are more silver deep or more silver in high trash. I leaning more towards high trash. But being in the right place makes it alot easier.

Is your ground setting on difficult? How fast are you sweeping the coil? The 250 can handle very fast sweeps. Etrac - not so much. Are you sure your coil was over the coin? Were both machines swept at exactly the same angle? Did your buddy have lot's of trash in his pouch? It could be a lot of reasons why he plucked the Indian Head over you?

yes ground is set to difficult. my swing speed has slowed down alot with the E-trac, I do notice signals at the the slower swing compared to the quick swing. yes I am sure my coil was over that indian, I had way more trash than he did, like I said I had a bouncy high low tone so I attacked it from all angles, it would bounce into the 30..35 FE range, so I hit my OPEN screen quick mask and the numbers stayed in the upper FE range(30's) , from all different angles. I have been told from day one that this is most likely trash, so I walked away from it. the thing I don't get is if that had been silver mixed in with trash the E-trac would have screamed out, I have pulled silver out of a hole with rusty nails already. don't get me wrong I love the E-trac and I am having great success with it, I'm just trying to figure out what is what so I can get the most out of it.
last night I went out to my side yard that I hit very hard with the ACE250 last year and have hit twice with the E-trac in coin mode, I still managed to pull some coins with the E-trac following the Ace...so last night I ran in TTF in an almost open screen and found 6 wheat pennies that I had missed running the coin program in conduct, with multi tones. I just think as stated above running TTF in a trashy park with alot of high conductivity trash should flash the same numbers but give me different tone options to listen to.

The stock Ace has a 6.5 x 9 coil. I guess it's possible it was just small enough to pluck the coin?

If it's heavy trash in the park and the $200 ace250 picked out the indian.
Use a small coil and what ever program your running run it in auto and maybe down to -3.
May have to run the sens even lower in manual.
fe can run 1-17 and co 28 and up

I got 3 merc dimes last night.
1 at 2" in no trash on a dirted over piece of sidewalk the numbers fe15 co47
1 at about 6" well worn,very close to trash fe8-10 co42-44(worn coin)
1 at 3-4" with a wheat penny, close to trash fe10-14 co39-46
Also 3 nails at 5 to 8" deep with very similar numbers and sounds.
Although when digging the silver coins I was more confident that they were good targets(from the sound) than I was digging the nails.

That's were the garrett with the smaller coil excels. I'm not saying the garretts are better but the etrac takes some figuring out in heavy trash.
I will say that the AT pro appears to be a little monster in high trash and coins in the 7-8' range.
The etrac is a monster on the deep coins and so far for me a semi monster in really trashy areas.
