It says "The Future of Discovery" with a countdown... I don't think it is their new pinpointer.... Someone on another forum said he heard something about "wireless" We'll see soon enough.

Just look on Minlelabs homepage, it has a countdown...

Very cool that would be an overly dramatic announcement for just a pinpointer so I am hoping its something more - much much more.

Just go to the minelab homepage to see the countdown clock.

Dangit, I just bought an excalibur. I can't afford a new machine! Hopefully it's not a new coin or beach detector so I won't have to be lusting after it.

Well, a "countdown" like this is a switch from the norm (in advertising).----Presentations like this (of course) is designed to stimulate curiosity/excitement.----I guess it's working!------Remember the "teaser" ad Garrett had before the debut of their AT Gold?-----Pickups driving up a creek (amongst a few other indistinct things)---some of the guys thought it was a truck ad when they first seen it.----I WONDER WHAT MINELABS GOT????------------Del

The company I work for, we will file patents without ever intending to manufacture the product. It just keeps the competitor companies from pursuing the technology. Minelab may be planning on using the patent or they could have filed just to sit on the patent.

OK, here's some more mindless speculation for you...

With that tid bit of information combined with the patent link that was posted that makes reference to ability to handle rough ground minerals...Perhaps the only real new ability of this machine will be to get deeper in severly mineralized ground that even current Minelabs have trouble with such as the red iron rich clay in VA and such.

And so *maybe* it will only show a real advantage in depth in those rare situations...And that you wouldn't really see a performance increase over current Minelabs in most common moderate to heavy mineralized sites that they can handle with no real problems. That's what I'm hoping. I can live with that, because then there would be no need to sell off the current Minelabs unless your ground was so severly mineralized that this machine would get deeper in those rare spots that they couldn't handle, but in most moderate to heavy mineralization the current line up will get just as deep there as it will?

That's a big stretch, I know. But it is fun to speculate, ain't it? Just don't want to see some new super ability to reach deeper coins in most grounds than the current machines, or ability to unmask stuff like magic, or say the ability to get gold rings and leave the trash all behind. Those kinds of things would be the end of the hobby IMHO.

I think we are going to see an Etrac replacement with better depth and discrimination, wireless headphone option?? We haven't seen anything new in five years other than the Excal II how much of an improvement was that? Blisstool has a new machine that shows some promise, I am not sure how it will handle trashy areas or how well it will deal with EMI but in an open field it is at least thirty percent deeper than anything in its price range. Whites V3i looks like a great machine too... I think Minelab has been sitting back working out the bugs and now, hopefully, waiting to launch this one. Just my HO
