Did TTF Trial tonight and it failed

Okay, I read the link above to the TTF program for the E-trac then went to the YouTube link and watched how the guy set his up.

I got it to duplicate his test with two square cut iron nails on each side of a silver quarter on the same plane as the quarter. The quarter sounded off and the nails did not.

However, being the type of analytical person I am and knowing nails don't normally lie perfectly even with a coin I got my 4x4 out.
I put one of the square cut nails at the top edge of the 4x4 and the coin on the sidewalk. There was no hit from the nail and no hit from the coin just as I suspected would occur.

Now then, if any of you E-trac users know of a work-around concerning this problem using the stock coil, I'm all ears.

I tried all different kings of settings and could not hit that quarter. I couldn't hit is from 90 degree sweeps either. It is possible I'm missing something.

I tried it in 2,4 and multi tones. I tried different levels of iron disc. Used Auto and Manual.

If you can figure this out I would appreciate it big time!

I will check out my Deus hopefully after work today. The video shows several detectors i.e. CTX and Deus on iron nail test comparable (almost) to my test.

I went ahead and did the test with CT_Todd's program on the Deus this morning.
When the nail is at 90 degrees to the original drawing I made, it would hit the coin.
However, with the nail pointing at the coin as in the drawing I made, the coin could not be heard. I tried different Reactivity settings all the way up to 5 and still no hit on the quarter.
I then moved the nail away from the coin at different distances. Not until the nail was about 4 inches or more from the coin would the Deus hit the coin.

This test proves to me that there are probably untold millions of coins in places that are said to be hunted out.
Maybe some day the metal detector manufactures will address this problem and places that are said to be hunted out will come back to life again.

Tony ,
That is almost the identical results I found with the etrac ,CTX and Deus ,,,,,, but it gets worse. You will notice much the same thing with canslaw , pulltabs and the zincolns that so many leave behind. People accentuate the effect of iron because of the nulling but all the other crappy metals do the same thing which is why digging all those oddball signals is such a good habit to develop.

Yep, so true. Probably why some of my better finds were the oddball signals.

The masking effects of unwanted items, both ferrous and non-ferrous, gives hope to the detectorist.

The first detector company that makes the first detector that completely unmasks will put out all other companies.
