Howdy--

It's been pretty hot here - between 100 and 108 in the shade and there is NO SHADE! To keep from going crazy I went out a couple of times but for very brief hunts (for me). Because of medications and the heat, I have been limited to 3 or 4 hour hunts with plenty of rest and hydration periods. Anyway, I've had a little luck. My last hunt was in a nearby town where I found a nice older house in a good old neighborhood that had a sticker on the door stating that the property had been abandoned. My buddy, Kenneth , and I got after it. I was experimenting with single frequency 22.5 kHz and had success. At this site I dug quite a few memorials and then near a large tree I dug 9 clad dimes in a very small area and a wheat cent at 5". A few feet from there I got a bouncy signal in the high 80's and dug a 1942-D walking liberty half and a 1964-D Roosevelt. Also dug, at this site, 6 clad quarters, a couple nickles and several toy cars. The other silver was dug at a recent tare-down. The 1952 Roosevelt must have been in the building and fell in the dirt when they hauled the debris away because it sure hasn't been exposed to the harsh west Texas soil. I think that the next time that I hunt my relic site I'm going to try the 22.5 frequency with my 14" DD coil. In air tests, the 14" DD gets excellent depth and that extra depth just might get that gold coin that has eluded me! Best of luck and...

Good going Blind Squirrel, great finds. Those Walking Liberty halves are extremely hard to find. However, I do know that you probably have a cigar box full of them with all you have found. Keep on finding them!!!

Thanks shafer44. It HAS been a while since I dug a Walking Liberty half and this one was a sight for sore eyes. I don't have a cigar box full of them but after 30+ years of detecting, I have dug a few rolls of them. Keep knocking on doors and you WILL get your share! Best of luck and...
