non motion mode?????

Hi, i don't understand why some people talk about ground balance and they mention all metal non motion mode?????? what do you mean by that non motion mode, haven't seen that mode????

correct me if i am wrong, does no motion mean that while I'm out in the field i don't have to move the coil side to side only keep it stedy and only walk forward with it ??? or non motion means that i dont have to move the coil only when i am ground balancing the detector , and after i ground balance the detector then i a can move the coil side to side ???

I'm sorry i am not good for English I'm from Chile, sorry

OK- as you are detecting you swing the detector to detect a target- right to left- as you pass over the target it sounds off, in disc or all metal, this is called motion mode as the coil has to be moving to sound off, in no motion you can hold the coil steady, -NO movement over the target and it will sound off steadily, but if you were in disc it will NOTsound off unless the coil is in motion, when you hold it motionless the sound stops.
Used properly is fantastic, as Charles Garrett, It takes 100 hours to learn a detector properly=I believe him=:garrett:

Bugar is right on! Most metal detectors, while in "Discriminate Mode" require movement of the search coil from side to side in order to detect and discriminate metal objects. If the search coil is held motionless over a metal object, the object will not be detected. Search coil must be in motion(side to side) to detect metal object. That's why the VLF Disc Mode on the Scorpion is called "Motion Disc".
While in "All Metal Mode" on the Scorpion, you still search by swinging the search coil side to side. However, if you were to hover the search coil motionless over a metal target while in "All Metal Mode" it will still be detected by the Scorpion. "All Metal Mode" is deeper and more sensitive than "Motion Disc Mode", but there is no discrimination.

There are several metal detectors that have an "All Metal Mode" that still require motion of the search coil to detect metal objects. This is "Motion All Metal" which the Scorpion does not have. The AT Pro does not have a non-motion "All Metal Mode". It does have a "Zero Discrimination Mode", but side to side motion of the search coil is still required.

The AT Pro can be ground balanced in any mode, but the Scorpion must be in "All Metal Mode" in order to be ground balanced.

I hope that I haven't confused you any. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you. Feel free to ask for advice at anytime. Happy Hunting!

hey thanks a lot bugar and metal head, so what you are saying is that, when i am in all metal mode i have two options or i can move the coil side to side to detect or i can keep steady the coil over a target and still detect something ( sound doesn't stop) , correct me if i am wrong:confused:

That's right it'll beep a solid sound as long as over the target-till the batteries go dead, it won't stop till you move off target, works great for locating and pinpointing, and when I do that i usually use the front or rear tip of my DD search coil=what they come with=good luck and HH-Bugar

hey thanks a lot, sorry if i am making a lot of question, but I'm just a beginner

this is another question that i have.....

when should i know that i have to ground balance , does the sound of the detector goes up?

which is the signal????

If I am just starting out, first thing I do is GB, when I am near or at the spot where I intend to detect, this is in all metal, and move about a little, to see if all seems well , then I start detecting, if it just dosen't seem right or sound right, i will GB again, only takes a second or two, I believe C. Garrett says somewhere in manual, check frequently, i usually do, most times where I am it very seldom changes, but I check anyway, it's real quick once you are detecting, because usually the ground just dosen't change that much in a given area, but it's no big deal to check and re-set it if needed, I even check from time to time when using my detector in disc in tot lots or whever, like i say it's no big deal and easy to do. HH
Don't hesitate to ask-whatever- glad if I can help, I'm just not real good with discriptive words and terms, but will do whatever I can Bugar

hey bugar i have another question , can the scorpion find gold nuggets the size of a golf ball, baseball, and how deep does this metal detector can detect, 1 inch 2 inches, how many???:smoke:

It will sound on nuggetts 1/2 the size of a .177 cal. airgun pellett at around 3 inches= THIS IS SMALL= TINY=> a golf ball size it should sound off I'm guessing- at around 10-12 inches- That's BIG-
On a belt buckle or can it will sound off at around 28 inches-I know this, and in damp soil much deeper- Hey get out there and GO FOR IT:hot:
