Grip cover

I have been using a grip cover to keep dirt off the foam grip and it works great. I don't think I can mention the name but it can be found at most major fishing departments.
It is a rod handle grip protector. It comes in multiple colors and sizes. Large will work great, just trim the excess.

Since they changed the handle material on the Explorers from the indestructable nylon to the foam, I have used a baseball or tennis racket grip material to protect the foam. I had an Explorer SE pro and my calloused hands ripped the foam in the first two months of use. I wish Minelab would go back to the original XS handle material. I used my first xs for over 1500 hours with no wear! R.L.

OK ! The wrap is a thin stretchy foam that you can wrap around the foam handle or the whole upper unit if you like. It does not hold dirt and is not as fragile as the
Minelab foam handle. You can also rewrap again once it gets to dirty. It cost about 5 dollars and the large size works best. You can buy them at most big sporting goods in the fishing department.
There made for fishing rods but work on anything you can wrap it around. It is thin so the handle will not feel to large. Google "rod wrap betterwaysproducts" Lots of colors for you color coordinated detectorists.
I'll add a pic of my unit later.

I use some thing called What a Grip for tennis rackets but you still have to take the arm cuff off and the stand. It comes with a plastic sleeve to help with intallation its work out pretty well so far.

Good suggestion.
I have neoprene fabric I bought that I took a seamstress, who made me the grips, and control box covers at a reasonable price. You can chose any color you wish. They fabric is very tough, breathable and comfortable on the hands.

Just my 2 cents

I didn't like the foam alone either on the e-trac, so ended up wrapping the whole upper handle with a flat strip of bicycle innertube. Started at the box, and finished by the battery cover with electrical tape. Very strong, doesn't budge, and wipes clean with a sponge.
