Reg or anyone; I know that by lowering the pulse delay to 8us it increases the sensitivity to small gold, but does it also increase the detectable depth of slightly larger gold that is detectable at 10us?

The short answer is yes all target signals are larger at the shorter delay, thus the potential for greater depth of detection of all targets.

Unfortunately, the ground signal is also larger, so it has a negative effect.

Finally, all signals are more erratic for a better choice of words. Because of the strong possibility the coil isn't working fully up to par, there is also the possibility of signals from hotrocks not normally heard. Even black sand can begin to sound off at times.

The bottom line is, the detector will most likely operate differently at the shorter delay and may display anomalies that are not the fault of the detector design but are the result of the shorter delay and how it effects the overall operation.

This is one of the big reasons manufacturers limit the minimum delay. Even at a minimum of 10 usec, it is very possible that some larger coils will not work properly. So, at 8 usec, the problem becomes more obvious and severe.

Thanx Reg for the response, it sounds like it may be ok for someone willing to live with and learn the idiosyncrasies and limit its use to smaller coils

Reg; When lowering the PD to 8us on the TDI, does it also lower it at the hi end, 25 to 23 and move the midway point to 15.5?......................Thanx,......... .Duke
