Just watched the weather and it looks like I am done for awhile. Cleaned up all my hunting gear and put it away for now. Sure looks like Feb.will not be as nice to us like Jan. was. What about you guy's? Is anybody going. HH

I am probably done for the next couple of weeks unless the weather warms up quite a bit. Maybe I should use the time to get my pick, shovels, and buckets together. You know that geode season is coming up don't you. (hint hint).:rofl:

Western Illinois and Eastern Iowa and Missouri along the Mississippi River are great places to hunt geodes. I know of several areas as close as Brown County Illinois that have geodes. I am sure geodehunter can probably give you more information.

To answer your question there are tons of geodes in this area. Now for the bad part. There are so many people coming into this area that they are ruining it for us locals. A lot of my places have been leased to the money hungry people around here. It really bites to ask for permission and being told no. I have lived in this area all of my life and have never seen it this bad. We used to ask and we were hardly ever turned down. Now it's the opposite. It is truly a heart breaker. I started hunting for geodes when I was 6 years old. I am now 56 and hardly ever go anymore. To get to some of my spots now I have to sneak in. It's not right to do but what's a local supposed to do. Thank God for metal detecting!!! I still have several places to go and FUN.

PS, If you folks still want to go out for a hunt this year it will happen. :)

I,m not for sure when the last time you were there. If you remember the rock house those stones that were used to build it were all found by the family. Now here we go again, The bad part. It has all been tore down and is now The Avenue Of The Saints (interstate). Now the good part, Tim still has both mines. The interstate actually split the mines. The old mine he pretty much keeps for his own. The other mine across the road has been producing some killer stuff. You just have to dig for it. Now to answer the part about cost I am not for sure what it costs. It goes by 5 gal buckets full and total weight. I can find out, Tim and I are pretty good friends. Now if you have not forgot your touch you will know whats hollow and whats solid. That's how you fill your bucket up. With hollow ones.
