How did the hunting go at the private property?

For the longest time, every time I went by this one old house, it was calling me to hunt it. Finally Larry asked for permission from the renter and then I asked permission from the owner. We had the "Go ahead". We hunted that older rental property (corner lot) a few years back and that thing kept on giving and giving. I might have to go digging to find the pics. We're thinking about asking again if we can swing the machine across the yard again. That place was a treasure trove. I think we stopped counting after finding over 120 wheat cents, I found 2 fatty 1859 Indian cents, first year shield nickels, etc.. Yes, that was just the beginning. Oh, and can never forget the W.W.II dog tag that was returned to the owner's son since his dad has passed.

I wish you all the chance to find a honey hole like that!

HH,
Nancy

I love pvt. lawn hunts. Here in small town Metamora everyone knows one another so its always interesting finding something with a name on it showing it to the property owner and just that spawning a story about the past. We have one lawn that I want to get back to soon. Each time we have gone it has produced IH's, seated, barbers and mercs... There are some pvt lawns that I have gotten all excited to have permission to hunt (knowing that the original house on the lot was 1800s then when you get there you find nothing but a 1990's hot wheels car. That is what makes the hobby so enjoyable. Just like tonight we have permission to hunt a new lot that we know has some age to it. Who knows what we will find may have a fist full of silver may end up with 10 cents in clad... Ya just never know..

I am one who likes to know the history behind what may be coming out of the ground. So finding that dog tag with an owners name on it or an old school guard crossing pin near an intersection is what gets me excited. Sure finding silver always gets ya going but finding those items that you can possibly put a name/face to is what find to be most exciting. So fingers crossed tonight we all end up with a decent amount of silver but I hope to come up with some other items as well!

I really enjoy pvt lawn hunts but really want to get into hunting some woods/timber here soon. Maybe I will have to hit up Andrew or some of the other guys who have had good luck in the woods and tag along to give me some pointers!

You know what it's all about! It's not always about the find. It's the meaning behind the find. HH, Nancy
