The ground is still frozen for the most part here in Central Wisconsin but I found a thawed patch that wasn't near a large pine tree where I had a dime and a cent buried 9"+ for a number of years. I did a manual GB and it was neutral at #89. I then lowered my GB down 1 number at a tme till I hit the first faint low tone (about 85) and then went 2 numbers lower to #83. Then I checked for the dime. There is a well rusted nail 3" or maybe a touch more from the dime so my signal gave me a low grunt (iron set at 30 Pro) but then went right up to a clear dime signal at 9-10" deep on the meter. The cent did the same but without the nail I got no iron grunt. Same 9-10" meter reading. This agrees with the same test with the larger stock DD coil that came with the Pro that I did just before the ground froze in late December. When I did that test I tried lowering the GB down past 2 numbers below the first grunt below neutral and it didn't seem to make for a better target signal.

I'm amazed the the much smaller 5x8 DD coil would go this deep on a dime.

I started detecting in 1998 and have used several detectors most of which were much more expensive but I'm getting older now (70 next birthday) and the Pro with the 5x8 DD will fit me perfectly . I love to hunt in the trash and can't wait to get back out hunting when the ground thaws.

I have used it the last couple times out and it is awesome. I hit an indian head at a good 8 inches in my local trashy park. It really pulls those coins out from the trash.

Did you try automatic GB then searching for the coins? I usually just auto GB then go.
