John,

Yes, that has been established but I have another Q that occurred to me today.

The AT Pro = 15khz
The AT Gold = 18khz
The AT Max = 13.6khz

My 'silly question' is: is there a difference to the amount of coil windings between the Tx and the Rx in the three DD coils???
Or, do they have the exact same amount of turns???

I am not John but with my tour of the factory the other day. I was told yes the coils will work on all three machines, AT PRO, AT GOLD, AT MAX. to answer your question, all transmit and receive coils have different amounts of winding per coil, regardless of whom ever makes the coil. The tuning of the Garrett coils in done with software built into the machines. Nel, coiltec ect have to tune each coil to the KHZ of the unit it will be used on. Example, NEL has a Sharpshooter for the AT PRO, but it says in the instructions NOT for the GOLD, So tjey also have a Sharpshooter for the GOLD and bet they will also have one for the MAX. Hope this helps on what you are asking.

I'm sure the coils will work on the 3 machines but comparing all 3, how efficient are they since they seem to have been designed for different freqs.? Hope this question makes sense.

It does make sense, Woody, and a concern some of us have had since the announcement that the coils were interchangeable. I know Garrett states the soft wear built into the machine adjusts to the coil in use? Guess time will tell. HH jim tn

Yes it does, I ask the same question when at the factory the other day. They gave me a tour and showed me where and how they make the coils Amazing how its done. no tuning while being made just a test to certain ohms readings in the windings. then its assembled and sent to be tested...(Tuned if that's what you want to call it, it is tested on all three units ) if it pass's it test it is sent on down to assembly. put together with which ever unit, Pro, Gold, Max. then tested again. if every thing meets there specs its good to go if not it (coil) is trashed and another one tested on that unit.

Hope that makes sense.. was fun to watch them being made and tested on the units. The software has to be down loaded to a microprocessor on the main motherboard in the unit before the coil can be tuned to that unit. Also I was told to do a factory reset EACH time you change coils so the unit will retune the unit to that coil. Hope this helps

Thanks, Buddy. I am kind of anxious to get my hands on one. If in fact it turns out to be deeper the the Pro, with its little lower frequency it should be a real coin killer. The A T Pro in its own right certainly is. HH jim tn

Buddy,

Thanks for all your information.

You just said [ the most important thing I have read all year ]

"Do a Factory Reset to allow each coil to calibrate"

AT the factory was the first time I had heard about it also.
Tried mine out with my NEL coil and the VDI is much closer than before
And it makes sense. when you change coils from one size to another, the coil you just put on has not been tuned to the machine, when you do a factory reset that is one of the main things it does is to calibrate the coil to the motherboard. takes less than 10 seconds to reset.

Jim I Have been trying to talk my wife into letting me get one ever since I played with the one at the factory a couple weeks ago. Man was it hot on air tests and LOVE the threshold sound and volume control. With 80% hearing loss need all the volume i can get nowdays LOL. Best way I can describe it is... You have a Hot silent search VLF with a slight background threshold sound like an old TR machine that will let you get the real deep ones that wont VDI. If you ever used a Tesoro AZTEC
if you hit a real deep silver it would make a soft zoom zoom as you crossed over it. I will repeat a statement I made in another post.

I THINK WE HAVE A WINNER HERE FOLKS
