Coins for me. I tried water hunting this year and it's definitely challenging. Target recovery requires a lot of patience,

I was always a coin hunter. In fact I didn't care for the water hunting much..

I do a little coin hunting on occasion, but prefer the water. It's easier on me to use a scoop than to stoop and bend to retrieve targets on land. 6 of 1 and half dozen of the other. I'm a little metal detecting scudder....lol

Mostly old coin hunting for me. Enjoy the occasional relic hunt and trip to the beach, be it fresh water or salt, but even after 45 years with the hobby, seeing a silver dime down in the hole still excites me. HH jim tn

Mostly coin / jewelry hunt. I coin / jewelry hunt when the soil is not like concrete here in Va., at that point I switch to fresh water lakes, beaches and rivers both in the water and on the sand, then when I go back home where there is a lot of old history I mostly relic hunt and on vacation most times I hit a salt water beach, so I guess you could say I do it all as I figure most here do LOL but 90% of the time I coin / jewelry hunt both land and fresh water to chest deep.

I used to be a big diehard Civil War relic hunter. I never have liked coins unless they were old silver ones. I never actively pursue coins though. Just not my thing. Civil War relic hunting is extremely frustrating in this area. It has been popular here since just after WW2 and land owners have grown tired of hunters...the good and the bad. So what that means is less places to hunt...add in constant building/development and a lot of sites are under buildings, subdivisions, and concrete. I actually quit detecting for a while because of it. Then I discovered beach hunting for jewelry. I love it. Haven't found a lot in the way of expensive stuff but it's something I can go do, not have to get permission for in public swim areas, and the sites always replenish themselves. Once or twice a year, I make it down to saltwater beach hunt and I like that a lot too. It's a total equipment and mindset change from relic hunting but I enjoy it.

I generally start by digging all signals to get an idea of how old the ground is. Relics tell me age and then I can eliminate known trash targets. If I am finding 18th century artifacts, then I'm digging everything. If I find a piece of a pewter item, I try to find the rest of it. I am learning something from every target. And I go back to sites after a rain. AT pro is very versatile if I use all adjustments for the site I am at. Even the beach. Peace

Mostly relics. Farms around here go back about 200 years. I have access to over 5000 acres but the finds get a little slimmer each year.
