Was at a cellar hole and dug this. The grass was stacked high in the field so I was hunting all metal. Not sure what it is. My friend at another cellar hole got an 1873 IH and a toe plate. One spot would be thawed out and you would move over a little bit and the ground was frozen.

thought it might be for horse reins but slots look too small for any type of belt to go through, neat find. HH

Maybe a costume piece or side tie for a pair of chaps. Cool find, I can just see it on a someone like Anne Oakley's outfit.

pretty obvious that a strap of some kind went through it.. for what purpose your guess is as good as any.
