I was thinking of using my G B Pro for coin shooting because it's so lite. But what I read it's not to good for that [ TRUE ] ? Any help would be great

I second BH_Landstar's comments. For those who say the GB Pro is "not good for coin shooting," I will have to respectfully disagree. While it does NOT have a notch (which some coin shooters like to use), and while it does not offer you multiple tones such that you can "cherry-pick" high tones, there ARE ways to set up the machine to make it effective as a coin shooter. Further, with its VERY good ID accuracy and other positives, PLUS VERY respectable depth capability, this machine will do a good job for you, I believe.

If you came on here and said, I am a coin hunter and want the best machine for the job, is the GB Pro that machine? I'd say, NO. BUT -- if you OWN a GB Pro, and want to know if it will do you a good job in a coin-shooting role, my answer is a resounding YES.

Just my opinions...but I think this machine is a very under-rated machine with respect to its coin-hunting capabilities...

I owned the first version 2.9 and found a ton of silver coins with it but I found some limits. The more desc. I used the less depth I had. I lost 2 halfs to a friend coming behind me with his ETrac and that hurt. I went to a Safari for coins and my deeper coins have been showing up along with a higher silver coin and ring count. It is hvy and the GBSE was very light and grt in trash with the 11". Mine had a issue also with EMI in areas with power towers or alot of power lines. Dont have that issue with the Safari. The Grd Bal. is also dead on with the GBSE. The GBSE was a gold hound for park use. I found several small link gold chains and small jewelry.

The G2/GB will absolutely find coins but, depending on your soil conditions, it may not find them at the depths of an Explorer or an F-75.

In my sandy Florida soil coins can sink quite deep over time, so finding old shallow coins is something of a rarity here.

If your soil is harder, perhaps clay based, the sink rate isn't nearly as bad and then the G2/GB will do very well for you.

Mind you, depth is your only concern.

As long as you dig targets registering 80 or above, about the only coins you will miss are nickels and zinc pennies (copper pennies should ring in the 80s too if my memory serves correctly). If you want the nickels, you need to dig the 55-56 range also.

YES, Smudge, zincs you'd miss, as they hit in the mid to upper 70s, and nickels -- which hit around 58. Copper pennies are, though, as you say, above 80 -- at around 83.

While these units in some soil may not be as deep as an Explorer -- I will surprisingly say that my GB Pro with 11" coil will hit coins ALMOST as deep as my Explorer will, in my soil. In my soil, I just don't get quite the depth that others do with an Explorer; here, a 9" deep dime is a fairly tough dig here with the SE Pro. But, the GB Pro is neck and neck, in my ground...believe it or not. NO DOUBT, in mild soil, an F-75 LTD or SE will be a deeper unit. But...my GB is NO slouch, in the depth department. It amazes me.

Anyway, I agree with you...it is not the DEEPEST of all machines, but it will "hold its own;" besides that, it does have some things it does VERY well (mitigating EMI, very accurate ID with depth, light weight, and the ability to set your "tone break" being excellent "positives" with these units).

I hope you all think the gb pro is a bad coin shooting detector. That way you will all use other heavier machines and get tired fast and go home leaving all the good finds for me.... J/king.

They are not the deepest coin hunting detectors, but honestly, most coins and similar targets are not all that deep.

Pick the right coil for the site challenges and you'll be able to find the otherwise tough-to-find targets that can often be masked. It's also how you set it up and make use of the Tone Break for the site you're hunting. I have been using the 5" DD the most and just can't come to get attached to the 11" DD coil. I have, however, started using the 5x10 elliptical DD more, especially in the brushier, challenging ghost towns and homestead sites I've been working.

I just returned from a 9-day road trip that included a detector group gathering in Eastern Oregon where I used my Omega w/stock coil and G2 w/5" DD. Both detectors and coil choices worked quite well. The 5" DD was doing so well that I didn't pause to swap back for the newer elliptical DD. I like the newer coil over the 11' coil because it is a solid bottom coil and doesn't get hung-up on short stiff weeds, brush, twigs, etc., and I will use that coil more on my next trek over that way.

This trip was quite enjoyable by me and several others familiar with hunting those types of sites, and an education for those who had no clue what it was like to hunt a true ghosted town site. The amount of variety of sizes of the junk was a wake-up for most of the 18 people who journeyed over there. We actually found more trade Tokens than we did Coins ... almost TWICE as many tokens! Using good slow-sweep/quick-response detectors are what really made things happen in our favor.

I had absolutely no complaint about the G2's performance, and one of the attendees was so frustrated with how his other Texas-made detector performed (or didn't perform) that he got a hold of me about a new G2. Light weight, easy to use, versatile, and it did fine hunting those types of sites. Coins, tokens and jewelry are all fair game for the Gold Bug Pro/G2 detectors.

I like my G2 and it has more than paid for itself with gold, but it is not a deep silver finder. In my 6 months with the G2 I found 2 silvers. I started hunting with a friend who had an etrac a month ago, he would call me over when he was certain he had silver. The G2 was silent in disc and all metal. I watched him pull silver for several days and I got nothing but clad. I am detecting about a year and a half and love the hobby, that said I went out and purchased the CTX 3030 and in 4 weeks got over 25 silvers with my prize being a 1907 Barber Half. I like my G2 for my tot lots and the beach but if you want deep silver the CTX is the machine to buy.

It is really nice to go to a park/playground you know other metal dector users from your club hunt. And find just 1 nuckel and a gold id bracelet. I am pretty sure one of them missed it. I admit I also recovered a few bobby pins and a ail or two.

Jerry aka (tinfoil) once said you will never pay for a new machine with silver, so focus more on the gold. So true. Oh by the way, his wife is very ill (cancer).
