Wondering about the G2 reputation.......

I'ts supposed to work wonders in trashy iron infested areas. This is really overhyped. I don't get it!! This detector id's rusted bottle caps as "high zone coins". It just can't go quiet over any of the rusted caps or iron slaw i've come across. I'm amazed how the old detectors that I used in the late 80's completely rejected bottle caps and iron slaw..................today's detectors can't acomplish this simple feat.....are we really moving forwards???

works great for relic hunting you have to remeber you are using a double d coil which will id bottle caps that way your old detectors that you are talking about used concentric coil which would do better on bottle caps

So why doesn't Teknetics make a round 5" concentric coil for high trash areas................I bet it would be areally big seller. How do they get a reputation as being good in iron.......... if they are using the wrong coil design? Wouldn't it be better in iron areas to be using a concentric coil??

The GBP and the G2 were designed around a DD coil. Get yourself a 5" round DD coil and slap it on instead of the 11DD, it works just as great as a concentric would, you will be surprised how well it works in trashy areas..
By digging up the bottle caps, you may have unmasked a prize target, sweep the area again.

I have a Gold Bug Pro with a NEL Sharpshooter and have not had to many problems with bottle caps. I usually just work the coil backwards off the target and watch for the ID to drop off when it hits the toe of the coil. My Gold Bug Pro will hold a very stable ID on a coin where the bottle cap will drop 10 or so points down. If you are going to use DD coils you better get use to the bottle caps or work on a trick to ID most of them.

Is it possible that the higher 19 KHZ frequency makes the detector like iron bottle caps even more vs. lets say a lower frequency of 7.8KHZ ? Just wondering.

Higher frequency is more sensitive to lower conductors and has more problems identifying iron, like in bottlecaps.

Is that a fact.... a theory...................or did you read that some where. I 'm not sure but I think I remember that statement from some article. Thanks for mentioning it.

Compairing F75 at 13kHz and Goldbug DP at 19 kHz, both with 11" DD, it's way easier to identify a steel bottle cap on a F75 than on a Goldbug. With the F75, by wiggeling the nose of the coil over the target in question, you can almost always get the steel bottle cap to give the iron grunt. This will not work on the Golbug. The Goldbug is more stable on the ID than the F75 though, and the ID on the Goldbug will drop in numbers as Zmerik above told.

cant remember digging a beer cap with the 5" fisher coil on the Bug or the F19 but it doesn't take long to work them out with the bigger coils lift the coil up it wont sound like a coin or wiggle it around a bit sound is different and ugly its more of a scream than a typical coin will give.

I have a bit of fun and try turn beer caps in to coins via the sound  hasn't worked yet though :sadwalk:

The G2 is a damn good relic machine. I've got a brace of other detectors & the G2 is what I grab every time I go relic hunting. I dig coins regularly also. Buttons bullets & brass this machine love it.

While sweeping the coin target, and lifting the coil, if the vdi numbers drop low (while lifting) it's a B- Cap........

Now if the VDI Numbers stay high it's a coin....... this trick don't work with the G2?
