OK my fellow CW relic hunters....what kind of weapon did this come from?

I have a friend who took her daughter in town here for one of her first times hunting with a metal detector. General Sherman passed through town after the battle of Bentonville. I am not real good at identifying projectiles. Can someone share any possibilities of this musketball that she found. Looks kind of small compared to your common ball, but it does have the old lead patina. Thanks for any info. I will pass it along to my friend and her daughter.

I know, they moved it...dang. I will have to try to find it. They didn't say where they moved it to. It does not seem like it was a big deal, but I was afraid someone might bet upset. Thanks though.

The top post with links to interesting places will help ID the bullet but a side view and a picture or description of the base will also be a big help as well as how wide the projectile is.

Taking a wild guess, it might be a pistol bullet in the .25 to 30 caliber range.

Congratulations to the young lady with a new hobby and great find. :clapping:

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

It's a little hard to tell from the picture but it looks like a pistol ball. Below are a group of .58 cal. Round balls and buck n balls found in the same hole and also a picture of a pistol ball. Hope this helps
