Why the Deus has two sets of controls.....

Heres an interesting post from one of the UK forums. It was posted by the owner of an XP forum who also happens to be the UK distributer for XP:

The Deus was always intended to be used without the remote control mounted on the stem, this is why it was originally supplied with magnet holding it to the stem as it was only for occasional use to change parameters, having made those changes you would 'save' and then turn off remote & pop into the hip mount case for future use.

The fact that so many new Deus users were insistent on using the remote control as a 'vdi readout' threw a spanner in the XP works hence the eventual change to slide mount to accommodate those users better.

Why do so many people want to use a meter ? mostly because market forces, advertising, marketing has told us we NEED the vdi meter, many Goldmaxx users amongst us know otherwise but the 'grass being greener over the hill' persuades many to adopt the vdi in the belief that it will help decipher good from bad targets, I would suggest it in fact confuses what would otherwise be a very simple dig/no-dig scenario by adding conflicting information, do I dig coke, yes I do, do I dig large iron, yes I do, BUT do I ever miss anything (potentially) good ?.................

I guess that would explain why the Deus has a separate set of controls for the headphones. Yet, it hardly seems worth the added cost. I wonder what the price of this machine would have been if they had gone with a permanently mounted control box and a simple wireless headphone set-up? As far as meters go- I really dont have an opinion on whether people should use them or not. I do agree however, that the Deus can be a very effective machine when used with audio alone.

I keep the control unit in an arm mounted waterproof ipod/cell phone case along with my log. That way, if I need to make adjustments it's right there and the case protects it against the rain and dirt/dust. I use the sounds to determine whether to dig or not, but I do look at the Id to make a note in my log. I'm still fairly new to the Deus and like to see where the targets hit on the ID scale in the different frequencies.

you can use simple wire headphones on Deus wireless headphones panel or control panel, or glue control panel to wire headphones  or buy Deus and sell wireless headphones to save cost.

Some of this quoted UK post is just 'woman's gossip' and not fact.

The Deus and its remote handset was always something that you could either leave on the stem for VDI reference if you personally wanted to...or as many did in the early days of its appearance, tuck it SAFELY away in a pocket or on a wrist holder.

It was immediately evident when first used, that the unwary may just 'knock it off ' despite the strong magnet....I think the original magnet was soon superseded with a stronger one.

But at about £500 UK pounds a throw, a better or more secure method was paramount.

It's true about the 'sound only being sufficient' for UK relic-coin hunting, for hammered, Roman, fibs and coins vary quite a bit, so numbers to us are less important.

On site, a good sound simply demands digging, where as nickles and dimes are far more consistent in their VDI (generally, I presume).

So the original UK post is more about waffle........

"Spanners in the works etc".....is simple a load of tripe.......

This UK gentlemen must talk in his sleep...and listen to the echoes
