Heres an interesting post from one of the UK forums. It was posted by the owner of an XP forum who also happens to be the UK distributor for XP:
The Deus was always intended to be used without the remote control mounted on the stem, this is why it was originally supplied with magnet holding it to the stem as it was only for occasional use to change parameters, having made those changes you would 'save' and then turn off remote & pop into the hip mount case for future use.
The fact that so many new Deus users were insistent on using the remote control as a 'vdi readout' threw a spanner in the XP works hence the eventual change to slide mount to accommodate those users better.
Why do so many people want to use a meter ? mostly because market forces, advertising, marketing has told us we NEED the vdi meter, many Goldmaxx users amongst us know otherwise but the 'grass being greener over the hill' persuades many to adopt the vdi in the belief that it will help decipher good from bad targets, I would suggest it in fact confuses what would otherwise be a very simple dig/no-dig scenario by adding conflicting information, do I dig coke, yes I do, do I dig large iron, yes I do, BUT do I ever miss anything (potentially) good ?.................
I guess that would explain why the Deus has a separate set of controls for the headphones. Yet, it hardly seems worth the added cost. I wonder what the price of this machine would have been if they had gone with a permanently mounted control box and a simple wireless headphone set-up? As far as meters go- I really dont have an opinion on whether people should use them or not. I do agree however, that the Deus can be a very effective machine when used with audio alone.
