Final Hunt for 2016....Rescued Some DEEP Keepers!

I got some more time with the relic program, and it has quickly become my go-to program for sniffing out the deepest of the deep. I stayed in 4khz the entire hunt, and toggled back and forth on suspect targets between "Goodjuju" and this relic program on the ones that sounded like coins. For the most part, the Goodjuju program indicated on everything that the relic program did, however there was one target that was completely out of range and I could only pick it up with the deeper relic settings.

This was the last target of the night - also the last target of the year...I got just a whine out of the audio. Toggling to the other 4khz program, I could not get the target. It was a soft, barely audible hit surrounded by some clutter - probably some small foil. Got down to 6" or so and my Carrot saw nothing - not a peep. Mike came over and tried with his pulse pinpointer, and he was getting a soft indication slightly offset the center of the hole. Got down to 8" and then the Carrot finally saw it - at a full 10 inches deep I was elated to see an Indian cent, dated 1906 come up for some air! There was also a nail below the coin at a depth of about 12 inches, close to 2 inches deeper than the Indian.

Earlier in the hunt, I snagged a 9" deep V nickel with the relic program, but first I dug a small flattened piece of foil at about 6" down. 4kHz with the Deus has always has slight trouble hitting deep, 7" plus nickels in all the other programs I've tried. The relic program gives just a little more push deeper - although it wont indicate as such! Maybe 20 minutes later I found an 8" deep 1899 V nickel that sounded "smooth" as opposed to the chirpy, abrupt hits from most aluminum foil targets. Beavertails and pencil eraser holders will indicate somewhat coin-like - but a coin will almost always have a smooth "edge" to the audio which is more pronounced with this program vs other 4kHz programs I've used. These were the 2 programs I used last hunt:

GOODJUJU...........................................................................RELIC

4kHz....................................................................................................4kHz
Sens 85.............................................................................................Sens 88
Full Tones............................................................................5-Tones....100Hz 00; 100Hz 01-10, 502 Hz 11-45, 800Hz 46-97, 100Hz 98-99
Disc 2.0...............................................................................................Disc 0
Audio Response 3......................................................................Audio Response 4
Reactivity 1....................................................................................Reactivity 2
Silencer 1..........................................................................................Silencer 1
Notch 00-25....................................................................................Notch 00-25
GB Manual 85...............................................................................GB Manual 72
Notch Ground 85-90..................................................................Notch Ground 80-90

The neat thing about the Relic program is that a LOT more depth is possible from lowering Reactivity, Silencer, GB, and upping Sensitivity! I think 4kHz and the 11" coil is a winning combination for hunted out parks - give it a try at your local "hunted out" spot

Well done, as always...

You've refined that relic program into a killer coin finder in short order!

See you next year. :beers:

Nice finds. I have trouble running 4kh in a lot of my areas I think due to the fact that it automatically goes to tx3. Wish it would give the option to lower it in 4kh. Do you have any trouble running that program in modern trashy sites?

Well done CZ some interesting finds, 4Khz is very often overlooked.

4Khz is susceptible to EMI moreso than the other frequencies if you're hunting an urban setting. I like it because of deep iron rejection, and the Full Tone spread on US coins. It handles tough soil pretty well, and for small bits of foil and flaky metal things like gum wrappers, the audio is "smeared" which helps identify the trash sometimes.

Lately I've been using a relic program that is essentially a "Beep and Dig" setup - this seems to reach deeper coins a little better largely because of the high negative GB settings
