I've never used ground notch but I find this to be very interesting! I'll try to keep this tidbit of info in mind. Thanks for finding this out for us! You do great work...keep it up!

Interesting . . . . . have used it since V3.X was released and in doing in-ground, pre-dig comparisons there is no impact on depth . . .less noise yes but no depth loss.

It didnt do it with all deep targets in my test,I had similar results on a 12 inch silver quarter with version 3 legacy coil and it cut back the signal. Seems to be the ones that are really right at the edge of detection depth. BTW both targets it did this on were silver quarters.

Try that with a standard coil

TNSHARPSHOOTER conducted a test today and posted them on another forum after he saw my video and came away with same results. I asked could I copy and paste his findings or could he come here and comment on the results he saw.

Folks, (Tnsharpshooter)
Calabash 'a video test has merit.
I did test using 9" coil and got similar results.

But using 11" coil, seems ground notch setting has very little effect if any on the deeper nickel I tested.

I used 2 different Deus units ( components) both with V4 loaded.

My take is if you are using Deus with 9" coil,,,,stay away from using ground notch.

This issue here may need more study.
Could I be wrong ? Maybe
But I know what I heard and didn't hear.

I don't have either of the HF coils to test this here.
Just the older 9 and 11 incher.

Could this difference noted between the coils, be version 4 driven?

I don't know, I am not about to load 3.2 back into any of my units.

That got my attention Calabash! I will do some more side by side comparisons out at my sites.

Just got in testing an LF and a round HF coil on a V4.X unit and did not see what Calabash did.

One factor that is not being brought into the equation is the ground. Since my daughter lives in the area Calabash does, the ground there is very mild and sandy. Mineralization is not a factor as it is in many other areas. In that case, GROUND NOTCH will not be gaining you much and it seems it might cost fringe signals. Ground here is moderately mineralized - 4 boxes or so on the right hand bar - and using it quiets the unit down. I removed some of the GROUND NOTCH so that it covered where the GB was which was in the 84 - 85 range and did not see any detection loss even on fringe targets.

I plan on going out when it is not as hot as it is now with a V3.2 and a V4.X unit and check the LF coil on both as well as the two HF coils to see if there an impact.

Good example of trying settings in your test garden on the type of targets you are looking for . . . if ground is a factor on what it does, then that is clearly not a "one setting fits all"

My ground where I Tested is medium mineralized, about half scale in index meter.

Deep nickel with ground notch 85-90,,a scratch, ground notch 84-90, nickel tone GONE.
With ground notch not applied a very good signal, tx power 2, freq 18, sens 90, reactivity 2.5, silencer -1, ground balance dialed to actual ground phase, disc O full tones, disc 6 three tones--9" LF coil.
.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out in different soils around the country.

why do people run ground notch? is it just to quiet the detector a bit?

thanks...

thanks,

just for discussions sake say if the ground is reading on most sites between 80 & 90 where would one run the ground notch ?

thanks again...
