Update

The consensus is that this sword I found is whats called a "Small Sword" which is a personal defence weapon 18"-24" inches. You would have your regular "Broad Sword" and then you had this "Small Sword" on your belt too. The sword people are saying French made about 1720-50. This sword would have been carried by a Military Officer or Gentleman of the time period.

I wonder if the Indians scavenged the blade for spear points and arrow heads? It would be cool if you could find the rest of the sword.
