Deus found something beneath the ground

Since getting the Deus, my best finds, merc dime and 3 cent piece were found laying on top the ground.

Today was different. I wanted to detect at a place that is up for foreclosure and is vacant. First hit I pry up a 4 inch clump of dirt and grass and this big shiny ring is under there. So very weird, it is a 1974 class ring and that is the same year I graduated. Have already contacted the class of 74 facebook group to try to identify the owner.

Ya, ya, I might detect on the banks property without really asking but at least someone might be getting their ring back. Besides it was one of those quick reconnaissance hunts, before I asked.

Greetings and good luck from West Virginia

Nice find. Do you know what it rang up ID wise and in what kHz were you detecting?

Tony, we're not supposed to care about target id numbers, remember? LOL. It was 87 and frequency was 7.8

My high school facebook group located the owner of the ring within hours. Guy lives 100 miles or so away, gets down this way to check on his mother, will stop by the get the ring. He was very surprised. This was really a fun day!

I would never have expected a gold ring to hit at 87. Is it silver instead?

The owner must be in his 60's if he lost it 40 some odd years ago.

Yes, unlike me, he is probably old, fat, ugly and wrinkled.

It is 10 C gold. I don't remember what it rang up at the site, it just sounded good. But after you asked, I tested it in the house and it read 87.

Tony, four of my largest/heaviest gold rings all read in the zinc penny range. Also find silver rings at 81-85.

That makes sense since 10K yellow gold is comprised of five parts copper and five parts silver.

I just noticed in your little bio under your posts that you are a married lady. That is so cool that you metal detect!
You must be one tough lady! :-)

Does your hubby metal detect too?

That's really nice you are able to reconnect the ring with the original owner! Good for you!

He doesn't metal detect but is interested in the finds. He has a motorcycle and likes to ride in his spare time.

It would be nice if you could take a close-up of it.
You know you probably have a setting in your phone for when you are viewing a picture on your phone that allows you to crop it?
When viewing a picture on your phone just tap on the picture and see what comes up above the picture and see if there are settings there to crop it.
If not, you can get the free IrfanView software to edit your pictures and make them so they don't have so much bloat but still look large.

You can get IrfanView at: IrfanView web site
