At the boot camp it was stated the the threshold should always be below the volume limit and be just barely audible. Otherwise one would audibly never know when a target was hit as there would not be a break in the threshold. To me that makes sense. If the vol limit is at 25 and the threshold is at 28 you would not get an audible break in the threshold.....at least I think so. I just followed their instructions. I have never tried setting the threshold higher as I only use it to get reassurance that the machine is working and a discriminated target has been gone over. The good target break through with an audible signal.

Good to know. My threshold is always just audible and volume always at max, adjusting the overall volume at the phones. And I also use it to monitor ground conditions and to make sure everything is running properly.

After some thinking about this and then testing....threshold volume will not interrupt the detection of an accepted target. With threshold at 50 and Volume limits at 8,the machine detects a dime as it would any other time. The threshold is just loud but when the target is detected the machine responds normally.

OK....learned something, thank you. In your test did the dime ring in at the 8 volume level? That (high threshold vol, low target vol) would be the reverse of normal response (low threshold vol, higher target volume). I wounder what circumstances would dictate that kind of setup.

TC...yes,low volume on the target. I don't think the two settings correlate the same way older silent search machines do. That being said,I wouldn't ever hunt that way.
