Looking on another hangout and could not believe how many ctx's were for sale. Is it happening already?

Seems to be a spike in used machines hitting the market lately in anticipation of something that people are hoping will perform better. Good luck to them.

On the pulse side it's a buyer's market for some nice used defectors.

Yea I know not a landslide ,but the most I have seen for a while. We will see if its a trend or a fluke. We will know when the puplic gets ahold of the new one. I'm keeping mine, but its funny to watch the panic starting to set in. There are posts of trade ins as well. I got stuck with a Garrett 2500 GTI. The at pro's smoked that thing. I took a beating. I like my ctx, sold the 5 year old and and just got my second one in April ,so no chance of getting rid of it .

Always a lot of machines get sold off going into winter except for people like me that are tightwads. Plus I love my CTX and it’s not going anywhere. Remember there were a couple machines that came out in the last year that were flops after everyone said they were the next big thing

If the price comes down far enough, I'll pick up a spare.

 Exactly. Someone selling the CTX either can't handle the menus/weight/etc or they just haven't spent the time it needs to be recognized for its sheer genius. That goes for the other Minelab I have too.

Warranty deals

There are a lot of guys that will buy a new one, use it up until a few months before the warranty goes out, then just buy a new one and sell the other one. The purpose is to always have a machine under warranty because Minelab has a bad rap and history of out of warranty repair waits being long and expensive. If you water hunt a lot, and use the CTX, you better have one under warranty. Some guys will also sell them at the end of the water/beach hunting season and then just get a new one prior to tourist season starting back up....same principle though...always having a machine with warranty. That's why you see waves of them come up for sale. There won't just be one here and one there.

I might just pick up another CTX if prices keep coming down. They seem to be selling around $1,400 in good condition and are continuing to drop. At $1,200, I'll probably bite. Helluva detector at $1,200, or even $1,400 for that matter.

I suspect your patience will be rewarded. There seems to be an all-out price war on between detector manufacturers.

I think there are two things going on which explains why there tend to be a fair number of high end machines for sale on the used classifieds, (and I am not just talking about CTX's)

The first thing is that now a days a lot of people buy their detectors off of the internet instead of at a local dealer and so they don't get a really accurate idea of what it is like to run the machine they are buying. Once they get it they don't like, or understand the audio it makes, or it is too heavy for them, or whatever. So they sell the machine in order to get another one that is better, or at least different in whatever aspect they don't like about that machine. For instance if they find the CTX too heavy then they move on to a deus.

The second thing is a trend I have seen for a long time where people new to the hobby figure price is the best indicator for buying the "best" detector. While a machine might be the best detector for an experienced detectorist, or even a newbie with a good technical bent, it can be overwhelming for someone who isn't technically oriented. A more modest turn on and go machine might have been a better choice for such a person starting out. Then either they never really get going in the hobby or eventually realize that they need an easier to use machine which really is the "best" machine for them. Then their high end machine ends up on the used market.

Some people like to change detectors like underwear .....they can afford it.....and can afford to a a loss. Most have some warranty...... those are good buys. BUT.... dont forget to shop around and get an out the door price on a new one .... full warranty, before you jump on one thats over priced too. You might be surprised.

Well, in that case, we can just cut the hand off. I'll be by shortly to take the hand and the CTX. I could use another $1500 at the moment, might even get something for the hand. LOL
