Vista Warrior with Epic 14" Coil

Hi all...
Just bought myself the Epic coil for my Warrior detector... Can't wait to get out on my permission and put it to the test... Hopefully will give a little extra depth ( not that the Deeptechs lack that anyway !) but hopefully without losing too much of that great seperation / recovery these machines give at the same time!..
Once I get out there ( possibly going to be a week or two now due to other commitments) ill report on my findings..

Regards
Rich.

Well I was out yesterday on pasture yesterday with the Epic coil...Depth was great as was pinpointing... I was worried that pinpointing would be a little bit more difficult as I have read elsewhere, but my experience was that it wasn’t noticeably any worse than my standard coil..( pit bull)
The only thing I did notice was that it became a little chattery ‘ slight falsing ‘ when moving coil through grass when it hit ‘ more resistive ‘ clumps.. Possibly due to the greater amount of ground/ minerals etc under the larger coil coupled with head movement then due to the slightly flexible bottom end of stem and the heavier search coil ( coil vibration)?

I have a field that is currently under crop that has produced very old finds in the past but has a lot of iron trash as well so I’ve ordered the 8 inch closed coil ready to give that a whirl working between the crop stems / rows once the maize has been harvested..It looks like depth performance on the 8” closed coil still closely match’s and sometimes exceeds the standard 11” pit bull coil... it should certainly improve the ability to locate finds amongst the iron over the standard.
I will report on how I get on with the 8” when I receive it and put it through it paces..

Regards
Rich.

Having used the 8" coil now it has demonstrated that for myself, the pitbull coil is the best overall coil for daily use... For ultimate depth, then the Epic is the coil of choice, but obviously with the added weight and size, it can get a little tiring after a couple of hours. The 8" coil lends itself to searching between crop stems , plough furrows etc but I've found the Pitbull coil, not really that much bigger, but still very responsive , quick and deep and easy to swing.

Hey Rich, on the 14" coil, if you've not already, secure the cable wire to the rod for 8-10". Sometimes a coil is so sensitive that when you bump against something, the coil stops but if the wire is loose, it will move some and the coil sees it as a target.... I have had customers tell me that their water machines would be exceptionally noisy in the surf and I told them to try this and as far as I know, everything turned out well for those having the problem..

Hi Richard
Thanks for that.. I am conscious of this but only have the one fixing loop around the cable at the top end of the plastic head holder part of the lower stem.. I might try rubber self amalg tape from base of stem and up some way up the stem as you suggest to see if this makes a difference to rule out cable movement.
I’ll let you know

Rich.
