We restrict the size of pictures for an obvious reason. What are the free software's out there you guys use to optimize the pictures with?

Putting them on directly from your cell phone is not going to work as they are way too large these days. Are there any optimizing programs yet for the cell phones. I figure a bunch of you know. I personally send any of my phone pictures to my home email and then just bring them into Photoshop. Most people don't use Photoshop as it is expensive to just make a file ready for the web. I know some of you have posted about it in the past so please post about it again.

Here's a couple of examples of a coin off of my phone once it's optimized by software. It's had all the printing information taken out yet is still a very large picture. In fact this is a Roman coin we're going to give away here. The pictures are horrendous (not caused by the optimizing) as I would normally take these outside and put them on the BBQ pit top in the late afternoon to show the coin in the best light. The flash just ruins the details but we're here to show size so here's the pics. In fact check back later today or tomorrow and I'll put the same coin on here taken in the afternoon sun on my BBQ pit cover.

Turns out that since I just moved my BBQ pit was a built in gas model at my old house and now I have a stainless steel one. Instead I put the same coin on the railing of my deck and shot a picture with just the morning sun now just getting through the woods to show you how much better the results will be on the same coin losing the flash. It's astounding what you get even with today's smart phone cameras.

Thanks... Guvner..

I just use paint (in windows 7) to resize. Send the picture to my email, download it to my desktop, open paint then open the picture in paint, click the resize option and change the pixel sizes, save and waalaa =) Also you can edit pictures in an email from Microsoft outlook if you have it.

I've never really needed to edit my pictures any further.

I do agree with you on the flash ruining details sometimes and I find myself having to get the angle of any normal light to get the details to really stand out.

On an android, they have an app called very simply "photo resizer". It gives you 2 options I believe. I use the 800x600 option and the picture usually is resized to about 46k. Here's one that was taken on my phone, original was 899k, resized, 36k.

Snikrah, Once the picture has been saved from your email, instead of opening paint, try right clicking the picture and come down to 'edit'. it should automatically open paint. Then you can click resize, change the numbers in the upper box to something that will reduce the picture size, ie: original is 1.2mb, change to 35%, should give you a picture size of less that 400k. You have to play with it. Then go to save as. Rename it if you wish, but not necessary. 5-6 easy steps for reducing a picture size for upload to the forum. I've been doing this for quite some time. IF it doesnt work on your computer, let me know, I'm very curious.

On my computer I have used Irfanview for years.
One of the most useful free apps that has ever been posted on the web.

I don't post from my phone much, but on my Android phone I just change the size on the camera app and it is already resized if I find a need to post anything.

Revier, I've looked all over in my camera app, can't find anywhere to change the picture size.

On my Samsung I turn on the camera app, hit the settings icon on the top left of the screen, (it looks like a little cog), and then just scroll down to resolution and change it there by hitting that.
Mine is set to 800X480 but 640X480 works well, also.

I use photobucket on my iPhone. The server at photobucket keeps the pics so there is almost nothing on this server. Just upload the pic right from your phone to the app. Go to your album, click the pic. Press the little "i" in the bottom corner and copy the img URL. Paste it into your post. Done

So easy

If you have an iPhone, you can take a picture and then email it yourself. When you email it, you're given three options to change size of the attachment. Usually the medium sized photo option comes in just under the max size for the forum.

Very simple method for posting on ANY forum (except Facebook. Facebook has it's own app, so that takes care of that).
