Finds on the border while Harvey threatened.

Had to work in Brownsville, Tx from the 21st to the 25th right when the hurricane was brewing in the gulf and nobody was sure where it would go. It never looked like it would really effect that area so I decided to stay. The weather was actually cloudy and breezy, which was a helluva lot better than the 100 degrees and baking sun that I endured for half the week. Through in a pic of the useless border fence where I was working. What a waste of money. Anyway, after work I found a few small areas to hunt and found a silver 20 centavo piece that was attached to a necklace at one time. A piece of silver is attached right where the date would be. This coin was made from 1905-1945. Found another copper 20 centavo piece from 1944. A copper 10 centavo piece was so crusty that I couldn't read the date (1936-1946). Three 5 centavos from 1958-1960. A 1950 1 centavo. A 1982 1 Peso. American coins were: 1906 V nickel, 1928 Buffalo nickel, 1939 Jefferson, 1919 & 1935 Mercs,, and 7 wheat cents from the 30s to 50s. The Catholic pendant is Sterling. Enjoyed the short time I had there. Nice People. I'm glad the locals missed the destruction that Harvey brought to other parts of Texas. One of my favorite places to go, Port Aransas, probably didn't fare well. I hope everyone who frequents this forum is out of harms way.

The "worthless" border fence needs to be backed up with a M60.

A great hunt !N/T

Nice finds! I hung around there in the early 80's. Hunted Brazos island and some of south padre but don't think you can anymore, not sure. Also San Benito to Los fresnos area. Did more fishing then anything, nice people and was real laid back in those day's. Freddy Fender was playing guitar right next to me one nite asking me what i wanted to hear, i said what ever you like to play works for me.

That's right nagant. I remember passing a town around McAllen that was the home of Freddie Fender. As far as South Padre goes, the National Seashore is a No-No.

Good finds 407floyd! A few years ago we were going to do some relic hunting along the Reo Grande, about 100 miles south of El Paso. As soon as we got near the river a helicopter flew over and 5 minets later the Border Patrol showed up to "interview" us. They do a good job and are on top of things. I was really impressed. As far as the hunt? Got some 45-70 brass and lead. Best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!
