Finally got some 925!!
Posted by: Goldstrike

The last couple of day's it's been cool and overcast, perfect weather for detecting! I just got this silver ring out of the ground and it broke a 'dry spell' on not finding anything interesting or worth anything! The cooler weather is so welcome after a sizzling summer here in Southern California!!

Nice ring. I found one a lot like it last year. Not sure what culture it is from.

Thanks Listener....I kinda think it's from India maybe? Although do they also have the 925 stamp?

I am unsure about the 925 other than it designates 92.5 percent silver. Maybe they are cast and marketed here in the U.S.

No that designates the silver content here's a bracelet I just found made in Peru in the 1950's marked 925

In my post I meant to say I am unsure about the 925 stamp used in India other than it designates 92.5 percent silver. I guess I should have been more wordy. Of course everyone knows that is the silver content. I have rings and bracelets from the UK, Italy, Mexico and the U S, stamped 925 and some 925 Sterling. Let's not pick nits here. I was merely replying to a post. It designating 92.5 percent silver is the same as silver content. We are in agreement on that right, so why say No it is the silver content. Thanks for schooling me on 925, I have two large ring boxes of rings stamped 925 and another two large pill bottles full of silver rings either Sterling or 925stamped on them. I've been detecting since around 1996 so have a lot of rings etc.

WTG, GS. That design reminds me of the window decal that I see on some souped up cars.....will take a pic and ask some co-workers if they can identify it....

Beautiful ring.
Other countries do use that 925 designation, here in the states it has always been 925 or sterling.
Some countries stamp silver 950 also.
If you get one if those you know it is foreign.

bob.oz If I took some time out when detecting and sat down in the park and did the mantra...........would I be guaranteed to get more silver? lol just kidding!! I never knew that the symbol was what you described!

Thanks for all the comments, they are appreciated!!

Well, one of my Indian coworkers did confirm what Bob said about the design being the word "om" in Sanskrit ..In addition, I was told that om means Lord: for Lord Shiva the destroyer, one of three primary gods, the other two being Brahma and Krishna. Hope I got that right....
