Impulse Control

Dug this thimble today and it just looked really good right out of the ground. Brought it home, showed it to my DH, and he told me how to unbend it using a piece of oak dowel and a rubber mallot. Okay okay, you can do it for me. But then I saw some writing on it and couldn't wait so I put a slender plyar handle inside it and a screwdriver and pryed and it broke. So it's ruined for future use and I DO sew. Anyway, I can read inside it says Mexico and Silver.

If you want to use it the hardware store sells silver solder for plumbing.

I used some just yesterday to fix a silver ring I found.
I made the ring as round as possible, aligned the crack then used my soldering iron to heat up the joint. Then a small amount of solder was dabbed on and allowed to soak into the crack.

I did apply some flux first, it was nothing special, just the acid type that they used to use on old lead solder, but other modern fluxes should work just as well.

Thank you Tony. Thanks Enderman for the information on how to fix it. Was thinking of taking it to a jeweler but if you can buy silver solder then my husband can solder it. Thanks!

Im pretty sure silver solder is not what you wanna use. Its for HVAC work on copper.

The jeweler idea was the best, but may not be economic. I thibk id buy onebon Ebay for use,
Prob a few finds members have them and may part with one reasonably.

I once tried to straighten a 1928 Confederate Veterans Reunion badge. Needless to say I cracked it like one of my home grown pecans. Now my friends won't even let me touch their "finds". One of them found a nice early 1800's key date coin slightly bent. I volunteered to straighten it for him. Thought he was going to have a heart attack!

No, I think you exaggerate. Most people marry people similar to themselves so I doubt she goes around trashing too much stuff!
