Hi all,

I just moved close to where Nevada, Arizona and California meet. I'm new to detecting and in the market for my first detector. Sorting through the flood of noise to get near the type of detector I think I need almost seems harder than actually finding gold.

Gold is my only target. Nuggets, to be specific. I'll gladly sift out placers if they seem to be rich, but I'm going for the larger stuff. From what I've gathered so far, a Pulse Induction detector is the tool for that job. For smaller, surface detecting, it seems like something along the lines of the Goldbug Pro 2 might be a good choice. But for deeper, larger target detecting - I admit I'm a little lost.

My preferences for the first detector are: (so far, at least)

cost: $650.00
type: Pulse Induction
condition: Used is worth a look - but as a first-time buyer, I could use pointers on what to be "buyer beware" of.

When I have a hard time telling if a detector I'm looking at is Pulse Induction or VLF, what are some clues? Frequency? Other indications?
Sometimes I can't tell if what I'm looking at is the name of a brand, a model, a type or a version and I haven't yet figured out the differences. I'm thinking I can just settle on one or two brands, one or two models, (I think a PI as my first detector, is going to give me what I'm looking for) but then type or version as well.

A little long for my first post, so thanks if you made it this far. Any questions or help are welcome and happy detecting!
