After I hear a target, I keep swinging past the target until it drops out, then while still swinging pull the coil back toward the target. At the point I hear the target again, the target will be just of the center rear edge of the coil. I place the scoop about 2-3 inches in back of the coil, dig down and if the target is not too deep, it is in the scoop. If I take 2 scoops and don't have the target, I turn 90 degrees and repeat all the above as I just may have hit on the side edge of the coil instead of the "heel" closest to my feet.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.
A bright yellow or white tape on the center rear edge of the coil helps in placing the scoop. Works will all water detectors I have used.

So far 3 rings 2 silver and 1 titanium as we are really sanded in here. No doubt about it this detector goes deep real deep just trying to get pin point down, Running with ground balance and sens at 12 i did try track on fast it seemed to help somwhat with the pinpointing, for some reason i cant run factory settings need to ground balance which is ok i know im gonna like this machine more and more this will be my sanded in detector and relic ctx for everything else

I just make the sign of a cross 2-3 times and guess the center (+). For better accuracy, I race the coil about 6 inches, guess center, then set the coil on the bottom of the sand, then map the bottom of the coil with my toe and set my scoop a few inches from my toe and insert the scoop into the sand.
