I used to rockhound all over the eastern part of TN and western NC.
Rocky Fork TN in the creek sw of 'town' is a good site for unakite. SE TN is good for metamorphic minerals, notably staurolite crosses. Sphalerite near Morristown and south of Knoxville. Zinc minerals in upper east TN. There some very pretty blue quartz inclusions in granite in the Ocoee gorge, but the last time ii went back I was unable to locate the outcrop. Barite, Flourite in the Sweetwater area. Qtz of all kinds + geodes all over; mostly solid thunder eggs in the limestone/dolomite weathered soils. I never was a fan of agates. A lot of the area's public bathroom rock is Knox Dolomite from numerous small quarries around Knoxville. Tons upon tons of fossils in/bordering the stripped mined coal beds.

Where are you based out of?

Yeah, sorry. Don't know anything over your ways. I'd suggest going to a local university geo library and skimming thru some old Tn Div Geology papers. They loved to talk about mining and minerals in those things. Also a good source of local intel are the masters theses and doctorates of local universities that have geology departments. I have found several good collecting sites that way, + I learn a lot about the local geology.

I run a shop that carries Rocks and Minerals here in Eastern TN and most of the rockhounds around here are finding Quartz, Mica, some emerals, and a few have found some garnets just to name a few of what has been found by some of my customers.

i live in morristown, i do alittle rock hounding but am not sound of the exact practices... i just either go out on the river bottom or dig blindly into the dirt. where would i go 'digging' for the materials you mentioned morristown has... i live around the crocketts ridge area and am familiar with all of town and every road it has... any help would be wonderful. i love gemstones and rocks
