I live in Louisa county - been thinking about river hunting, have the detectors to do so, but haven't yet. I read that there was a permit involved. Haven't checked for myself.

No permit required here in Ct but rivers and islands are great places to hunt the banks I found a beautiful 2 Reale 1776 on one and a kayak or small boat can get you to un detected spots!
Good luck

There is a permit required...$25. Check with Virginia Marine Resources Commission. A downloadable document...4 to be exact and you have to print it out. I'm just down the road from you...Hanover Co. Let's hook up if you decide to get one. I'm a newbie at water detecting but a well seasoned dirt diver!

HanoverDigger - thanks for the info, I will definitely check it out. Especially now with a potential hunting partner. I'm like you, been digging in the dirt for years. I'll be in touch!
